Facilities Mechanic - Elevator Systems

Position Summary
Under general supervision, perform routine, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, alteration, and installation of campus retractable bollard systems, loading dock platform levelers, and related non-elevator equipment. Maintain and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and control systems associated with retractable bollards, security gates, loading dock levelers, and related equipment located outside of elevators or conveyances. This position does not independently perform repairs, maintenance, inspections, testing, adjustments, or alterations on elevators, escalators, lifts, dumbwaiters, or any other regulated conveyance equipment. Any work involving elevators or conveyances shall be performed only under the direct supervision of a journey-level Elevator Mechanic and within the limits permitted by applicable codes, regulations, University policy, and trade jurisdiction requirements. Inspect assigned equipment for proper operation, identify malfunctions, diagnose system failures, and perform corrective and preventive maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation. Assist journey-level trades personnel, Elevator Mechanics, contractors, and vendors with maintenance, repairs, modernization projects, inspections, and testing activities as assigned. Operate and maintain a variety of power tools, hand tools, testing equipment, and service vehicles. Maintain accurate maintenance records, complete work orders, document deficiencies, and follow all applicable safety procedures. The position serves as the primary in-house resource for campus bollard systems, loading dock equipment, and related exterior, and supports emergency response activities involving bollard operations, loading dock equipment, security gates, and other assigned systems.

Qualifications
- Ability to: perform routine electrical maintenance tasks, including electrical repair on de-energized electrical circuits; use a variety of power or hand tools and electronic testing equipment; troubleshoot and repair de-energized electrical systems and equipment for malfunctions, sign of damage, deterioration, or adjustment. (Required)
- Working knowledge of: various power and hand tools, equipment and materials of the electrician’s trade; standard safe work practices; various types of fire alarm and security alarm systems in order to install and maintain systems and equipment. (Required)
- Ability to: work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and coordinate with other trades; work independently and follow through on assignments; adhere to department policies and procedures; provide direction to Facilities Workers as part of a team. (Required)
- Skill in: reading standard English text in order to follow through on written orders and carry out assignments; using oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise and grammatically correct information; writing simple English phrases using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports that are accurate and easy to comprehend. (Required)
- Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. (Required)
- Ability to: read project specifications, blue prints, and technical trade related manuals. (Required)
- Ability to: establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude; prioritize assignments and complete projects in a timely manner; consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position. (Required)
- Ability to: stand, crawl, walk, stoop and push, pull and lift or lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs; work indoors and outdoors, in wet or humid weather, and in fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures; work under adverse situations and conditions, e.g. dirty, noisy, confined spaces etc; distinguish among colors. Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
- Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
