Facilities Project Manager

Position Description Summary/Purpose :

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Facilities, the Project Manager provides day-to-day management for facility construction, planned maintenance activities, remodeling projects and emergency repairs. The Project Manager ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards. This position will simultaneously manage multiple projects in various phases. This is a 12 month, on-campus position located in Bridgeport, CT.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities :

  • Assists in determining scope, budget, and schedule for projects including case studies as required.
  • Works to implement the University’s Capital Improvement Projects.
  • Assists in project planning by determining and documenting project objectives and plans, setting performance requirements, and selecting project participants.
  • Maintains project reporting and communications with appropriate stakeholders
  • Processes all invoices from vendors and contractors and works with accounts payable department to ensure budget alignment and allocation of funds.
  • Confirms that all projects have a project work-plan, a communications plan, and proper financial controls.
  • Ensures that all projects stay on task and within budget, that projects follow accepted capital and construction methodologies, and that project objectives are me
  • Receives and catalogues required close-out documents and ensures that appropriate facilities staff receive all operating equipment manuals, as-builts and training.

Other Functions :

  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with technical product aspects and code changes.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill :

  • Possess working knowledge of capital and construction best practices concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use in
  • Solid analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Firm knowledge of all State government regulations related to safety requirements, building and fire codes, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and any other relevant government rules, regulations, and specifications
  • Must be able to clearly express and present, both orally and in written form, moderately complex project information in an organized and concise manner throughout the capital improvement process.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Software (Word, Excel Outlook) as well as the ability to reading blueprints and other construction documents. Must be familiar with PDF and CAD softwares.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and excellent project management skills.
  • Develop relationships with all stakeholders, recognizing their concerns and feelings, and listens well while advancing project objectives and building and maintaining long-term relationships.
  • Ability to easily work with building officials, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications :

Education, Training and Experience :

  • A bachelor’s degree in project management, construction, engineering, architecture, accounting, finance or business or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years of demonstrated experience managing design projects and renovations, and new construction projects.
  • Experience in higher education facilities preferred

Special Requirements :

  • A Driver’s license and insured vehicle
