POSITION SUMMARY
The Facilities Department at Willamette University is responsible
for the daily operations, maintenance and upkeep of approximately
1.4 million square feet of academic, residential, administrative
and off campus properties situated on approximately 60 acres with
all the associated utilities and infrastructure.
The Facilities Services Technician I performs a variety of skilled
and semi-skilled custodial/ housekeeping duties in University
buildings as assigned by Facilities Services Leadership. Candidate
will be performing assigned duties within a team oriented work
environment to effectively and efficiently provide custodial/
housekeeping services and to maintain the high cleanliness
standards of Willamette University. Candidate must be service
oriented and be able to work harmoniously with other staff,
faculty, students and visitors on Campus while performing the
duties of this position. Assignments as to type of work and
location of work duties may vary depending upon the work required
to be performed on any given day. Candidate must be flexible to
work whatever shift the university assigns.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform job duties in an efficient and professional manner
within given deadlines to assure the cleanliness and maintenance of
all areas assigned.
Work independently, as well as, work harmoniously with all
staff in a team oriented work environment to maintain the high
cleanliness standards of the University.
Typical job responsibilities include, but are not limited to,
the following daily tasks:
Dust mop, sweep, wet mop, and / or spray buff hard surface
floors as required.
Scrub, strip, seal, wax and refinish floors using machines on a
regular basis as directed.
Vacuum all rugs, carpets, furniture and drapes.
Dust and wipe down/clean walls, doors, windows, waste
receptacles, light fixtures, vents, radiators, and other
above-floor surfaces.
Dust, clean, and polish furniture.
Clean and sanitize all restroom surfaces and fixtures.
Replenish supplies daily.
Clean all blackboards / whiteboards, erasers, and chalk troughs
and restock chalk.
Clean classrooms and offices. Rearrange classroom furniture to
standard set ups.
Clean halls, stairways, elevators, lobbies, building entrances
and exterior porches.
Replace accessible light bulbs immediately when out. Notify
supervisor on inaccessible bulbs.
Shampoo carpet using extraction, foam and/or dry cleaning
methods.
Move furniture as required or as requested by supervisor.
Unplug sinks, toilets and drains when required.
Assists with laundry tasks and distribution of laundry to
assigned areas.
Provides coverage for other staff members that are out due to
illness, vacation, or other issues.
Notify supervisor on duty in a timely manner of any equipment
or facilities needing repair or replacement.
Responsible for practicing safe work habits, utilizing safety
equipment/PPE's as required and immediately reporting unsafe
conditions to a supervisor.
To understand and employ only those custodial methods and
cleaning products as approved by the University to preserve the
University's facilities.
Be able to calmly and effectively assist in emergency
situations.
Subject to after hour callbacks for emergencies.
Incumbent will carry an on duty phone or radio.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
- A minimum of one-year custodial experience is required.
- Work flexible shifts.
- Operate mechanical cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers,
shampooers, water extractors, blowers, wet vacs, high-speed buffers
and high-pressure washers.
- Work independently as well as demonstrate the ability to
promote successful community relations with co-workers, the campus
community and the public.
- High school education or GED preferred.
Preferred
- Two to four years related experience preferred.
- Be aware of safety hazards and have the ability to promote
safety as required, including Hazardous Communications
rules/regulations, Willamette University's Safe Working Policy and
OR-OSHA regulations.
- Possess working knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures,
materials (such as soap, waxes, and polishes) and the proper care,
use, and maintenance of cleaning equipment.
Typical Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 11:30 am to
3:30 pm; part-time, 20 hours per week.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
- Ability to work for extended periods of time while walking,
standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and climbing and while
exposed to dirt, dust, infectious waste, obnoxious odors, cleaning
chemicals, and inclement weather in areas sometimes dimly lit.
Requires traveling between campus buildings and routinely
traversing stairs and uneven surfaces. Frequently and safely lift
up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift between 26 and 50
pounds.
- Position requires moving equipment, supplies, furnishings, and
event-related materials. May require occasional schedule
flexibility to support campus events and operational needs. An
employer paid pre-employment physical is required.
Salary: $19.13/hour
