Facilities Specialist-Facilities and Environmental Safety
This full-time position combines responsibilities across two operational areas: facilities support and part-time mail services. The employee supports campus moves, event setups, surplus and inventory tasks, and assists with the university’s mail operations including sorting, scanning, and delivery support. The role is key to ensuring efficient coordination across departments, supporting logistics needs, and delivering excellent service to the university community. The position reports to Operations & Safety Manager.
Qualifications: Required Education and/or Work Experience: Minimum qualifications include equivalent of a high school diploma. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements. Preferred Education and/or Work Experience: Two years’ experience in a clerical field or related area. Forklift certification. Basic familiarity with mail delivery or general labor operations. Strong time management, communication and team collaboration skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position: Frequent lifting, walking, and equipment operation. Indoor and outdoor work, including occasional inclement weather. Works closely with staff, faculty, vendors, and campus operations teams. Occasional overtime or peak workload adjustments may be required.
Summary of Job Duties: Assist with mail delivery operations: help deliver inside/outside loop routes and sort mail/packages. Perform scanning, routing, and internal mail tracking. Receive, log, and help deliver packages, especially during peak volume periods. Support all aspects of moves and setups for university events and departmental relocations. Evaluate, package, and prepare surplus materials for proper disposal or redistribution. Load/unload delivery trucks and assist with shipping and receiving tasks. Maintain daily activity logs and coordinate with mailroom and facilities teams. Serve as a liaison with campus departments for scheduling, support, and communication. Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates. Requires consistent on-time attendance. Other duties as assigned.
Additional Information: Working Relationships: Works closely with staff, faculty, vendors, and campus operations teams. List Employees Supervised: none. Special Job Dimensions: Work performed primarily in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee frequently sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee occasionally lifts items up to 50 pounds. Routine work schedule Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional overtime and travel required. Background Check Requirements: Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR) Check. Salary Information: $30,845.
