Facility Operations Leader
Job Summary
This role is responsible for leading multiple work groups within facilities operations, including maintenance, custodial, and support staff. The position provides strategic direction, oversees operational performance, manages budgets, and leads capital planning efforts
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for assigned facilities operations, including maintenance, custodial, and support services across housing and assigned campus facilities
- Oversees multiple custodial and maintenance teams and leaders, including Facilities Operations Specialists and Dedicated Maintenance Supervisors, ensuring consistent service delivery and operational performance
- Develops and implements short-term operational plans and long-term strategic initiatives aligned with departmental and university goals
- Sets uniform processes, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency, service quality, and consistency in facility operations, ensuring compliance
- Directs facilities operations performance, including work order execution, preventive maintenance compliance, backlog management, and service response times
- Utilizes MMS/Kuali and operational data to monitor performance, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement
- Leads capital planning and execution, including development of long-term facility plans, preventive maintenance strategies, and major system replacements
- Oversees multi-phase projects and coordinates with campus partners and contractors to ensure successful delivery
- Manages financial resources, including budget development, forecasting, and cost control; oversees expenditures related to maintenance operations and capital projects
- Provides leadership for recruitment, training, performance management, and staff development across multiple teams
- Fosters a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement
- Serves as a primary liaison with campus partners, including housing leadership, Campus Facility Services, Capital Planning & Facilities, and other stakeholders
- Represents facilities operations in committees, strategic initiatives, and cross-functional efforts
- Facilitates 1-on-1 meetings with direct reports, leadership meetings, and all staff meetings
- Oversees building/room turns that occur in spring and fall where every room is assessed, punched, and cleaned
- Identifies and incorporates current trends in on-campus housing to best meet the needs of students and guests
