The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), is accepting applications from candidates for a research position at the Faculty Associate level. Qualified candidates with a master’s degree (or higher) in electrical engineering or computer science and 5 or more years of applied experience in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline are encouraged to apply. Applicants with technical expertise in the areas of embedded systems, reverse engineering of hardware and software, network security, radar, and/or wireless communications will be considered. The candidate is expected to work in person and collaboratively with existing department faculty and staff members, provide mentorship and research assistance for graduate students, and maintain an active research program. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Primary duties include:
- Planning, acquiring, installing, and maintaining cyber-physical systems experimental testbeds components such as software-defined radios, sensors, embedded systems, and network equipment.
- Reverse engineering of hardware and software to assist in troubleshooting and research.
- Providing technical support for student research for MS theses and/or PhD dissertations.
- Writing technical reports and presentations as a co-author and presenting the results of scientific research.
- Developing instructional materials to support short and graduate courses in the above-specified technical areas.
- Occasional delivery of education and training courses, as negotiated with the hiring organization.
Minimum Qualifications include:
- A master’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science from an accredited institution; ABET accreditation is preferred.
- Five years of demonstrated experience in embedded systems engineering, network architecture & security, hardware and/or software reverse engineering, wireless communications, radar, or related fields.
- Demonstrated writing ability via provided samples as first author.
- The potential to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- The ability to travel to temporary work locations at least twice per year.
