Position Overview

Prescott College seeks a full-time faculty member with program leadership responsibilities in our environmentally and design-focused low-residency master’s programs. The ideal candidate will teach courses within the Environmental Studies and Sustainability and Regenerative Design program, bringing expertise in regenerative, ecological, and community-centered design. This role combines teaching, advising, and leadership to support transdisciplinary scholarship and ecological literacy while preparing students to tackle complex environmental and social issues

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach core and elective courses, focusing on regenerative practices, environmental studies, applied systems thinking, sustainable design principles, and community-engaged projects.
  • Design and implement curricula that integrate ecological and design principles, emphasizing hands-on, experiential learning that prepares students for real-world challenges in environmental studies, sustainability, and regenerative design.
  • Collaborate on curriculum development across programs to maintain alignment with Prescott College’s mission of regenerative, justice-oriented education.
  • Lead recruitment, program development, and outreach efforts to attract and retain students.
  • Develop partnerships to support student opportunities beyond Prescott.
  • Facilitate collaboration between faculty, external partners, and students to develop interdisciplinary projects, internships, and research opportunities.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to students, supporting their professional and academic development through the design of personalized, transdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Mentor students in developing their practica, senior projects, or capstone work, emphasizing community-centered design and ecological impact.
  • Oversee program assessment processes, aligning Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) with best practices in regenerative design and environmental humanities.
  • Oversee departmental budgets, contribute to faculty hiring, and represent both programs internally and externally.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Environmental Science, Ecological or Environmental Design, Regenerative Design, or a closely related field, with a strong emphasis on regenerative or sustainable design practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including collaborative decision-making; partnership development; program development, management, and oversight;
  • inter-departmental collaboration to support student recruitment, engagement, and success; and more as outlined above.
  • Expertise in ecological design methodologies, including but not limited to biomimicry, permaculture, circular economy design principles, and multi-species design.
  • Proficiency in community-engaged design practices that address real-world ecological and social challenges, with a commitment to participatory approaches and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in academic leadership or program coordination, with skills in strategic planning, faculty collaboration, and program management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in transdisciplinary and collaborative design projects that address ecological and social challenges, including experience with place-based or bioregional design.
  • Strong record of scholarly or creative work in environmental science, regenerative design, ecological restoration, or systems-based design solutions.
  • Experience with project development, management, and delivery with enterprise stakeholders.
  • Recognized leadership in applied systems thinking, including integrated social-economic-ecological systems for human and more-than-human communities, and applied resilience and adaptation frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and curriculum development within a design-focused program, particularly with experiential, project-based, or applied design learning models.
