Faculty starting salaries are placed on a range determined by the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement, and dependent on experience. The 2025-26 starting salary range for this position is $68,031 – $78,068 for a 168-day schedule. Salary will be prorated for remaining days in the contract.

Position Title: Faculty, Heavy Equipment/Diesel

Employment Requirement Criminal Background Check - C4

Division/Department: Heavy Equipment and Diesel

Location Advanced Transportation Technology Center, Lebanon, OR

Job Summary: Teach classes in diesel and/or automotive technology. Specific teaching assignments will depend upon the needs of the college and specific skills of the selected candidate. Program courses cover all diesel systems, including electrical, fuel, engines, power train, steering, suspension, braking and HVAC.

Required Qualifications: An Associate degree in Heavy Equipment/Diesel or a closely related field, plus two years’ of full time work experience as a diesel maintenance and repair technician. Five or more years of full-time, journey level experience in diesel repair (experience should include suspension, steering, brakes, drive train, electrical/electronic systems, and hydraulics) can be substituted for the degree requirement. A valid Oregon driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in a related area and ASE master certification in diesel. A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Candidates must hold or be able to obtain within six months of employment, the Diesel ASE certifications specific to the teaching assignment. The ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Tests cover eight different areas: T1—Gasoline Engines; 60 questions, 1.25 hours T2—Diesel Engines; 65 questions, 1.5 hours T3—Drive Train; 50 questions, 1 hour T4—Brakes; 60 questions, 1.25 hours T5—Suspension and Steering; 60 questions, 1.25 hours T6—Electrical/Electronic Systems; 60 questions, 1.5 hours T7—Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems, 50 questions, 1 hour T8—Preventive Maintenance Inspection (PMI); 60 questions, 1.25 hours

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Physical Skills and Abilities: Work pressures, disturbances of workflow and irregularities in work schedule can occur on an intermittent basis. Learned physical skills required to operate equipment and tools. Changes in the performance environment require occasional upgrading of skills. Position involves sustained walking and standing on concrete floors, and frequent bending, standing, kneeling, reaching below and above shoulders, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. while performing job duties. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate equipment. Requires sufficient hearing and speaking skills to communicate with staff and students, independently, over the phone, and in classroom settings. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate lab equipment.

Working Conditions: Work is performed predominately indoors in college automotive/diesel labs and classrooms with potential exposure to safety or health hazards. Occasional work outside with exposure to inclement weather. Working conditions may be somewhat disagreeable requiring occasional exposure to safety hazards, and noise extremes. May have some exposure to blood borne pathogens, Occasional travel is required.

Essential Duties:

  1. Teach diesel technology classes and provide appropriate laboratory and shop education experience.
  2. Work collaboratively with other instructors and staff
  3. Maintain office hours.
  4. Establish and maintain working liaison with the local diesel repair industry.
  5. Participate in student recruitment and advising.
  6. Maintain shop equipment and support policy for personal protective equipment (PPE), tool, and equipment management.
  7. Perform other professional duties as needed.
