Faculty Position in Inherited Retinal Degenerations at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor Rank
Position: The Department of Ophthalmology is pleased to initiate a search to recruit faculty at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank to leverage existing expertise at UCSF and establish a Center of Excellence in Inherited Retinal Degenerations. Successful candidates will develop and maintain a substantial research program that will advance the field of inherited retinal degenerations, with a focus on enhanced S-cone syndrome, engage in medical student, resident and fellow education, and participate in campus graduate programs. We especially encourage applications from mid-career and established scientists with expertise in stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and high-resolution retinal imaging.
Our goal is to recruit scientists with expertise in high-resolution retinal imaging, disease modeling using patient-derived retinal organoids, and/or development of innovative therapies for IRDs. Specifically, these scientists will build on the advances made by our faculty who have pioneered high-resolution retinal imaging of enhanced S-cones using adaptive optics. We anticipate that the successful candidates will enable assessment of the structure and function of enhanced S-cones before and after treatment with regenerative stem cell therapies, use retinal organoids to identify novel therapeutic compounds, and develop therapies that preserve enhanced S cone structure and function to improve vision.
Environment: The position offers an opportunity to join the thriving community of basic and translational researchers in the Bay Area. UCSF has a longstanding reputation for excellence in research and is the leading recipient of NIH funds among public universities and second overall. The scientific environment is enriched by cutting edge initiatives including the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, and Innovative Genomics Institute.
Requirements: PhD, or MD, or MD/PhD degree (or equivalent degree), at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience, and evidence of extramural funding and high-quality independent research.
