Faculty Position in Kinesiology
Job Description
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 9-month, tenure-track position
PRIMARY DUTY: The School of Health Science and Wellness at Northwest Missouri State University invites applications for a faculty position with primary teaching responsibilities in the field of Kinesiology, specifically in Biomechanics and the Mechanical Analysis of Sports Skills, with the potential to contribute to additional areas such as Physiology of Exercise, Socio-Psychological Aspects of Human Performance, Evidence-Based Practice in Health Science, Exercise Testing and Prescription, Sport and Exercise Nutrition, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Health and Wellness courses, and Strength and Conditioning. Preference will be given to candidates who hold relevant professional certifications. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will supervise undergraduate student experiences and mentor graduate student projects, directly supporting Northwest’s BS in Applied Health Sciences program, which serves approximately 160 majors, many of whom pursue graduate degrees in athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or other healthcare-related fields. The School offers a diverse range of programs at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels, including Applied Health Sciences, Physical Education, Public Health, and Recreation, Parks, Sport, and Tourism, and provides access to multiple labs and advanced equipment in newly renovated facilities to support teaching, research, and student engagement.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical classroom and office conditions with weekly office hours required
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Faculty are issued a personal laptop. All classrooms are technology-enhanced (document stations, video equipment, wireless internet access)
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to complete teaching, scholarship and service functions and lift up to 20 pounds
Preferred and Required Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teaching: Design and deliver courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Academic year teaching load is 24-26 credit hours (4 fall/4 spring class load). Additional summer courses and associated compensation may be available.
- Service and Student Support: Assist with student recruitment, student advisement, student development and retention. Actively participate in related professional and community organizations, service on departmental, college, and university committees.
- Creative and Scholarly Efforts: Establish significant contributions of creative and scholarly research, participate in the generation and share knowledge through conference presentations, journal publications, and other appropriate outlets.
- Supervise student internships.
- Supervise student research projects.
- Coordinate and assist with supervision of lab activities (e.g. InBody, DARImotion, DXA, metabolic testing, force platform, Dyanvision D2, VALD).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Sciences, Health, or a related area. ABD candidates will be considered.
- Certification/License: Certifications welcomed (CSCS; ACSM; ACE; ATC; CHES; etc.)
- Experience: Successful teaching experience in kinesiology, exercise sciences, or health
- Skills: Positive interpersonal communication; organizational skills; a collaborative approach to work and classroom instruction; and general computer skills.
