Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Kanazawa University promotes transdisciplinary research that integrates the humanities, sciences, and medicine within its Faculty of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation. To further strengthen these efforts, we invite applications for a faculty position in Smart Social Systems and Regional Design. The successful candidate will be responsible for research and education concerning the analysis, design, and evaluation of social issues in local communities, cities, transportation, disaster prevention, the environment, industry, public services, and related areas through digital and smart technologies. Specific areas include smart social systems, smart cities, regional design, regional problem solving, urban and regional systems, transportation and mobility, disaster prevention and crisis management, environment and energy, digital twins, IoT, AI, data science, simulation, social surveys, policy evaluation, evidence-based policymaking, consensus building, and social systems engineering. The appointee is also expected to conduct data-driven analysis, modeling, simulation, policy evaluation, decision support, and support for consensus building regarding issues facing communities, cities, and industries, and to contribute to sustainable and inclusive societies through digital and smart technologies.

(1) Class duties:
Undergraduate specialized education (College of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation), Graduate specialized education (Division of Convergence Science, Graduate School of Frontier Science Initiative):
Kanazawa University provides education for students enrolled in the College of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation and the Division of Convergence Science, Graduate School of Frontier Science Initiative. This education is based on transdisciplinary sciences integrating the humanities, sciences, and medicine, as well as on the creation of convergent knowledge. The appointee will teach courses related to the above fields of expertise, as well as courses required by the College of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation and the Division of Convergence Science, Graduate School of Frontier Science Initiative. Examples include “Social System Engineering,” “Practical Smart City Theory,” “Urban/Regional Engineering,” “Evidence-Based Policy Theory,” and “Social Consensus Building Theory.” Depending on their expertise and teaching experience, the appointee may also teach courses related to transportation and mobility, disaster prevention and crisis management, environment and energy, social applications of digital technologies, regional problem solving, “Digital Twin and Crisis Management,” “Practical Data Science,” “Smart Supply Chain,” and related courses. The specific courses to be assigned will be decided in consultation with the appointee, taking into consideration their preferences, background, and the University’s teaching needs.
Note: Some of the courses listed above may be taught in English.
(2) Non-class duties:
Student guidance, research supervision, student recruitment, admissions, career guidance, social contribution, etc.
(3) Other duties deemed necessary by the head of the affiliated organization.

Contract period description: The employment period is set for 5 years. Candidates may be eligible for conversion to tenured status until the mandatory retirement age at the end of the fixed term if they meet the prescribed requirements through a reappointment review, based on their achievements during this period.
