Background of the recruitment and description of the project
In order to respond flexibly to the transformation of data-driven society and to enhance its international presence, the School aims to continually renew its education and research system by actively recruiting outstanding faculty, particularly promising young researchers who will lead the next generation. This recruitment seeks an outstanding faculty member, without restriction on rank, in order to strengthen the School’s education and research in the field of statistical science and data science—ranging from theory and methodology to econometrics and other applications in economics and the social sciences—and to ensure a smooth generational transition. The Graduate School of Social Data Science (SDS) at Hitotsubashi University has been selected for MEXT’s “Capacity Enhancement Support Project for Universities and Colleges of Technology” (support for capacity enhancement to secure advanced information professionals), and is building an education and research hub in “Social Data Science,” an interdisciplinary field integrating the social sciences and data science. The School established its master’s program in April 2023, established a doctoral program in April 2025, and plans to increase its master’s program enrollment quota in FY2027 (from 21 to 36 students), requiring further strengthening of its education and research system.

Work content and job description
Teaching
The successful candidate will teach data-science-related courses such as “Statistics” at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as lectures and seminars on statistical science (including theory and methodology), econometrics, AI and machine learning, big data analysis, and their application to social problemsolving.
- Undergraduate courses: “Statistics,” etc. (specific course assignments will take the appointee’s area of specialization into account)
- Master’s program courses: e.g., “Advanced Statistical Analysis (Applied/Academic),” “Advanced Topics in Social Data Science”
Teaching load: full-time: approximately ２ courses per week (excluding seminars, etc.)
Research and Social Contribution
- Advancing frontier research in statistical science and data science (including applications to economics and the social sciences)
- Actively pursuing external research funding

- Participation in various in-house committees (including entrance examination duties)
