East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST)

East China University of Science and technology (ECUST), located in Shanghai, is a key university under the direct administration of the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE). ECUST is listed under Project 211, 985 Project Innovation Platform and the Double First-Class Project of China. Based on Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database, Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, Biology and Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Agricultural Science, Computer Science, Environmental Ecology in ECUST rank top 1% globally, Chemistry being among top 1‰.

ECUST is comprised of 3 campuses, covering a total area of 169 hectares, with the main campus situated in the prosperous and energetic Xuhui District，and the other two in Fengxian and Jinshan District. Currently, it has 3098 faculty and staff (as of March 2022). Among them are 8 academicians of either Chinese Academy of Sciences or Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of Academia Europaea and over 120 national talents such as the recipients of National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars. Besides, there are a number of outstanding teachers, overseas talent program winners and young and middle-aged leading personnel.

ECUST boasts high scientific research. There are 2 national key laboratories, 4 national engineering (technology) research centers, 1 MOE frontier science center, 1 basic science center of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NNSFC), 39 key research bases at the provincial and ministerial level, and 5 think tank centers of humanities and social sciences at the provincial level. ECUST has set up a national university science and technology park and is one of the first six universities in China establishing national technology transfer centers, which enables ECUST to have made major innovation achievements and got more than 2,000 valid patents at home and abroad.
