Faculty - Principal Investigator

The Trudeau Institute, a premier research institute committed to improving human health through understanding and combating emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, invites applications for an outstanding Principal Investigator to become part of our multidisciplinary research community.
We are especially interested in candidates whose research will build and broaden the Institute’s core strengths in infectious disease biology and translational research. Priority areas include host-pathogen interactions, antimicrobial or therapeutic discovery, and vaccine development-particularly research programs that integrate mechanistic insights with translational impact. Access to the Institute’s BSL-3 and ABSL-3 facilities, as well as in vivo infection models, is available for appropriate research, though use of these resources is not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead an innovative, externally funded research program.
- Secure and manage extramural funding (NIH, foundations, or equivalent).
- Publish high-impact research in leading scientific journals.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaborations within the Institute and with external stakeholders.
- Mentor trainees and contribute to a vibrant research environment.
- Represent Trudeau Institute at national and international scientific meetings.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent in virology, microbiology, immunology or related field.
- A substantial track record of research productivity and innovation.
- Demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding (current or pending support required).
- Strong collaborative skills and a commitment to an inclusive research environment.
- Exceptional communication and mentorship skills.
Preferred (but not required): Experience in antimicrobial or therapeutic development, vaccine research, or chemical biology. Interest in leveraging in vivo infection models and/or biocontainment research environments. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaborative, interdisciplinary research environments. Expertise in computational biology, chemogenomics, and/or data-driven approaches (including AI/ML) that complement and integrate with experimental infectious disease research.
