Faculty Supervisor
Position Overview
Responsibilities include but are not limited to observing and mentoring teacher candidates in field experience and student teaching; coordinating with cooperating teachers; engaging in training and meetings for your role. We seek to hire individuals who are interested in teaching and/or supporting clinical supervision throughout the program. If teaching is part of the job responsibilities, clinical supervisors are required to use the syllabi already developed as part of the overall program design.
This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager.
Student Teaching Supervision of Teacher Candidates (60%)
- Observe and mentor each student teacher (teacher candidate) for 12 weeks during Spring semester, as assigned by the program.
- Complete and submit evaluations on teacher candidates’ performance (Dispositions, Student Teaching Observation Tool (STOT) using the Teacher Education Management System (TEMS)) and additional program-specific assessments if applicable.
- Provide ongoing observations with actionable feedback during student teaching to ensure growth and attainment of standards during the PELSB required minimum observations and triad meetings.
Coordination with the Cooperating Teacher (20%)
- Schedule and attend triad meetings with the cooperating teacher and candidate to ensure actionable feedback is provided and growth/attainment of standards is addressed.
Engage in CEHD training and meetings for your role (20%)
- Complete required supervisor orientation professional development on Canvas or in workshops offered by the Office of Teacher Education.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- An earned BA, or a closely related field is required for appointment as a Teaching Specialist
- An earned doctorate in Education or a closely related field is required for appointment as a Lecturer
- Evidence of attention to diverse identities in teaching or professional experience, and the commitment to support the University’s work in diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at a university level
