Is the Job related to staff position within a Research Infrastructure? No
Offer Description
Activities and context
- Study, document, and refine the 2D spectral filtering system (k→, ω) developed by the PI;
- Estimate global wave parameters and reconstruct separated components as maps;
- Map phase and group velocities, quantify zonal propagation deviations, and infer processes modifying the vorticity field;
- Calculate kinetic energy per wave regime via wavelet transform and correlate it with WBC variability of GLORYS reanalysis;
- Develop and apply routines for comparative data analysis of SAMOC/SAMBAR and RAPID/MOCHA networks.
The fellow will work at the University of São Paulo's Oceanographic Institute (IO-USP) in Brazil.
Mandatory requirements
- PhD in physical oceanography, meteorology, physics, or related field, obtained within 7 years of the fellowship start date;
- Proven knowledge of geophysical fluid dynamics, with emphasis on planetary waves and meso- and large-scale processes;
- Experience with spectral analysis and digital filters;
- Scientific programming for large datasets in Python (NumPy/SciPy, xarray, NetCDF) and familiarity with Linux environment;
- First author on scientific publications in international journals.
Desirable requirements
- Prior work with satellite altimetry products (CMEMS/DUACS) or ocean reanalyses such as GLORYS;
- Familiarity with wavelet analysis, vertical normal modes, and Rossby wave theory;
- Experience with in situ data from MOC monitoring networks (SAMOC/SAMBAR, RAPID/MOCHA) or general mooring time series;
- Interest in science outreach: the group produces animations for the IO-USP Museum's Science on a Sphere system and its YouTube channel.
