Fashion Lab and Makerspace Technician
Job Details
The Fashion Lab and Makerspace Technician's job is to support and maintain the day-to-day operations of the fashion design lab and makerspace, a collaborative workspace where students create and learn using a variety of tools and technologies. They help users with their projects, provide training on equipment, and ensure the fashion labs and makerspace are safe and well-maintained.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Equipment Maintenance & Support: Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of equipment, including 3D printers, laser cutters, fashion lab sewing machines, buttonhole machines and sergers.
- User Assistance: Help students with their projects from initial concept to final product, providing guidance and support throughout the process.
- Training & Instruction: Develop and deliver training materials and instruction on the safe and proper use of equipment.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure the makerspace and the fashion lab is a safe working environment, following safety protocols and procedures.
- Space Maintenance: Maintain the makerspace in a clean, organized, and well-stocked condition.
- Inventory Management: Track and manage inventory of materials and supplies used in the fashion lab and makerspace.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with users, staff, and vendors, including answering inquiries and resolving issues.
- Project Support: Help users with their projects, including troubleshooting, offering advice, and providing assistance with design software.
- Program Development: Contribute to the development of maker programs, workshops, and other offerings.
- Community Engagement: Promote the makerspace and its resources to attract and retain users.
- Data Collection & Reporting: Assist with collecting and analyzing data on makerspace usage.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate degree required.
Experience: Working in makerspace and fashion design lab setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to multitask efficiently.
- Knowledge of User Management systems (Google Workspace, Office 365)
- Experience with Email systems (Google Workspace and Office 365)
- Experience with Fashion Design Studio equipment and machinery.
- Experience with Laser cutter software and Adobe Creative cloud software. Experience with Embroidery machine software.
- Knowledge of various Makerspace equipment: Laser cutter, Mimaki direct fabric and heat transfer printer, 3D printer, large scale printer, Knitting machine and ZSK embroidery machine.
- Knowledge of various machines in Fashion Design lab settings.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- Annual Salary is $40,000-$48,500
- NJ Educators Health Plan with free Vision and Dental. NJ State Pension plan.
- 15 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, all designated holidays and 5 non-designated holidays a year. 3 Partial Sick Days.
