Fast Diffusion-Relaxation MRI with AI for Prostate Cancer Grading at Ultra-High Gradient Strength
About the Project
This project will develop a next-generation, non-invasive imaging approach for grading prostate cancer using advanced MRI and machine learning, with the potential to reduce reliance on painful and invasive needle biopsies.
Accurate tumour grading is essential for determining the most appropriate treatment for prostate cancer and predicting whether disease is likely to spread. Currently, grading relies on biopsy procedures that can cause discomfort, bleeding, and infection, while also being vulnerable to sampling errors if the needle misses the most aggressive part of the tumour. This project aims to transform that process by developing a rapid, AI-driven MRI technique capable of characterising tumour microstructure in unprecedented detail.
The project will focus on diffusion-relaxation MRI (drMRI), an emerging imaging technology that combines information about water diffusion and tissue relaxation to provide a more complete picture of cancer tissue than conventional MRI.
