Offer Description
Background: Synthetic data has the potential to surmount privacy issues and supply data into innovation ecosystems operating within the broader (digital) healthcare economy. At the Synthetic hEalthcare dAta goveRnanCe Hub (SEARCH) project, we are revolutionising healthcare by harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI), synthetic data generation, and Federated Learning (FL) to drive cutting-edge solutions in medical research and patient care. Our mission is to create an integrated,…
secure, and privacy-preserving ecosystem where healthcare data can be shared and utilised across sectors, unlocking new possibilities in diagnostics, treatment, and personalised medicine. The project investigates generative AI for various modalities, including tabular, signal, image and genomic data.
In connection mainly with WP3 "Medical Data Generation", but also WP4 "Clinical Decision Support, Validation and Demonstration", we are currently offering a post-doctoral position with responsibility to investigate and develop methods for synthetic data generation. The methods include FL-based data generation approaches, methods encompassing privacy-preserving and credibility assessment protocols, data-efficient learning for synthetic data generation (e.g., few-shot learning), personalised and multimodal synthetic data generation. The foreseen duration of the employment will be 1 year, extensible up to the end of the project.
This work is part of the European project SEARCH, which is supported by the Innovative Health Initiative Joint Undertaking (IHI JU) under grant agreement No. 101172997. The JU receives support from the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme and COCIR, EFPIA, Europa Bio, MedTech Europe, Vaccines Europe, Medical Values GmbH, Corsano Health BV, Maggioli SpA, Motilent Ltd, Ubitech Ltd, Hemex Benelux, Hygeia, German Oncology Center, Byte Solutions Unlimited, AdaptIT GmbH.
The University of Thessaly (UTH) was founded in 1984. Its administrative and academic centre is in the city of Volos and departments in the largest cities in Central Greece. It now holds the 3rd place among Greek Universities, and it belongs to the top 5% of European Universities according to University Ranking of Academic Performance. The involved Department of Computer Science & Biomedical Informatics of UTH, is located in Lamia, and it is one of a few academic units in Europe providing multidisciplinary studies, which combine knowledge both from computer science and biomedicine. The project will be implemented at the Biomedical Imaging Laboratory of this department (https://is-innovation.eu/). Our laboratory offers a secure working environment that can conveniently accommodate ~30 researchers, and modern equipment that includes a high performance computing cloud for demanding AI applications with >200.000 GPU cores, 3D printers, virtual reality equipment and computational modelling and simulation platforms.
Interested candidates are advised to contact Prof. Dimitris Iakovidis as soon as possible.
