Fellowship in Sustainability
The Max Bell School for Policy at McGill University invites applications for a Fellowship in Sustainability for the 2026-27 academic year. The position is open to scholars with policy-oriented research interests in sustainability, climate policy, the energy transition, or sustainable economic growth. The successful applicant will also have a track record in post-secondary teaching. The position may be awarded as a postdoctoral fellowship to a researcher who has finished their PhD, or to an individual outside the academic community whose writing, research, or public career is making a meaningful contribution to environment, energy, conservation or sustainability policy.
This is a visiting, fixed term position with an ideal starting date of September 1, 2026. The duration of the appointment is negotiable, although the preference is for one year. The position carries a salary commensurate with qualifications, the level of engagement with the School, and the duration of the appointment. The successful applicant will be provided with office space at the Max Bell School.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute in the following ways:
- Be based in Montreal and present at the School regularly during the academic term
- Pursue independent research and publications in the broad area of sustainability and environmental policy
- Contribute to the School’s public outreach (blogs, podcasts, etc.)
- Teach one case study or complexity seminar (short courses of one week duration) in the School’s MPP program, and/or coach a Policy Lab team in the area of sustainability/environmental policy
- Serve as an informal mentor to MPP students
- Serve as a liaison to McGill’s planning group for the new Sustainability Park
Applicants must upload a curriculum vitae and a letter of intent indicating the preferred start date and summarizing their proposed activities and objectives while at the School. They should also provide one sample of research and/or policy writing. The names and contact information of at least two referees must also be provided.
A review of applications will begin on January 9, 2026, and continue until the position is filled.
