Rhode Island and Miriam Hospitals and the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University seek a Director of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine to further develop the research, teaching and clinical programs of the division.
Reporting to the Chair of Medicine, the Director of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine will provide the strategic leadership, direction, and coordination of administrative, clinical, educational, and research endeavors across the division. The Director will lead the more than 30-full time faculty members across inpatient and outpatient centers, a well-established fellowship program that accepts 4 fellows per year, and the distinguished specialty areas of pulmonary hypertension, interventional pulmonology, interstitial lung diseases, cystic fibrosis, advanced sleep disorders, pulmonary physiology, as well as general pulmonary diseases. Critical Care fellowship training admits 2 fellows per year and gives them experience in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, state of the art ventilator technique, trauma critical care, neuro-critical care as well as general medical critical care.
Inpatient services are conducted at Rhode Island Hospital, a 700-bed tertiary care and teaching hospital in the Lifespan academic health system, which is the largest teaching hospital of the Alpert Medical School. Rhode Island Hospital has an 18-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit and was recognized by the National Coalition on Healthcare as one of the ten best in the country. It serves as a referral center for many hospitals throughout southern New England and is an ECMO center of excellence. The Miriam Hospital is a 250-bed acute care general hospital, also a major teaching site for the Alpert Medical School and has a 16-bed combined medical/surgical/cardiac unit.
The successful candidate must qualify for a full-time medical faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Applicants should be certified in pulmonary medicine and/or critical care medicine and have attained national/international recognition in the field, evidenced by involvement in academic societies at a national level, experience in attracting extramural funding on a competitive basis, peer-reviewed publications in refereed journals and formal presentations at national and international meetings.
Minimum requirements include: a record of successful leadership in academic medicine, scientific productivity and grant funding appropriate for a senior academic appointment at Brown, strong clinical background in pulmonary/critical care medicine, excellence in patient care and teaching, and a commitment to scholarly participation in the clinical and/or basic science research programs of The Warren Alpert Medical School. The Director of the Division will spend at least 20% time on their own research program and scholarly activity. The individual will be expected to have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
