Field Technicians - Tree Inventory Project - PT (Grant-Funded)

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a part-time Field Technicians - Tree Inventory Project in the School of STEM-Career. Field Technicians will be performing field work for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Tree Inventory and Community Forest Management Plan grant.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

• Uses handheld GPS units to locate and tag trees in various park locations in Utica, NY and Rome, NY
• Collects data on thousands of trees to create maps and reports for DEC tree programs
• Uses ArcGIS and county and city property maps to create detailed maps of tree populations in area parks.

This a 12 week summer position that will consist of 29 hours per week with work hours being scheduled between 8:30am and 4:30pm, Monday - Friday. Successful candidates must be willing to attend paid training to learn both how to use a GPS data collector and how to properly collect tree data (i.e. species, diameter, height, canopy health, etc.) as well as work the hours as required.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
- Must have an Associate degree OR a minimum of 60 completed college credits OR be a college student currently enrolled in 6+ credit hours, or will be enrolled in the fall semester
- Must have completed college credits in one of the following disciplines: Geospatial Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems

Preferred Qualifications: Background in GIS/GPS coursework
