Job Summary/Basic Function

The Fill-in Custodian person is called in on an as needed basis. This person may work several hours in one week and then none in subsequent weeks until new needs arise. The job involves building and grounds responsibilities including custodial and light maintenance. This person is expected to perform with a degree of independence and judgement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Ability to operate power equipment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrated custodial experience
  • Documented experience as a custodian
  • At least one year of general maintenance experience including basic painting, wall repair, electrical or carpentry

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Months Per Year: As needed

Work Schedule: As needed

Supervision Exercised: Supervises Student Workers, Work Study Students and Community Service workers.

Supervision Received: Reports to the Manager of Facilities Support Services

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Job Duties

  • Setting goals and objectives
  • Delegating
  • Providing assistance and support
  • Creating a supportive working relationship
  • Sweeping, mopping, cleaning, waxing and refuse disposal
  • Outdoor work including snow removal and lawn care
  • Unlocks and locks premises and secures buildings
  • Checks lights and heating equipment
  • Minor plastering, painting and carpentry
  • Operation of buffers and scrubbers
  • Reports hazardous situations after taking emergency steps to ensure safety
  • Reports violations of Bay College policy and abusive equipment use
  • Required to work nights, days, and/or weekends including hunting season
  • Any other duties as assigned
