Position Title: Financial Advisor

About Martel Wealth Advisors

Martel Wealth Advisors, Inc. is an independent, boutique investment management firm based in the Pacific Northwest since 1982. Today, we advise high-net-worth families and employer-sponsored retirement plans across 10+ states with over $1 billion in assets under management. The firm, supported by a dedicated team of specialists and built on a team-based approach, offers our clients a bespoke array of investment and retirement planning opportunities. Our headquarters is located on the waterfront of the Columbia River in Vancouver, WA.

Job Summary

The Financial Advisor serves as the primary relationship owner for high-net-worth clients, delivering comprehensive financial and investment guidance. Advisors lead client meetings, develop integrated planning strategies, and coordinate with portfolio management, tax professionals, and estate attorneys to deliver advice that encompasses the full financial picture.

This role is based in our Vancouver, WA office and serves clients across the Portland/Vancouver metro area. Advisors manage established relationships while contributing to organic growth through referrals, COI partnerships, and community presence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary advisor and trusted partner to MWA clients

  • Deliver comprehensive financial planning across investments, taxes, retirement income, estate planning, insurance, and major life transitions

  • Lead client meetings, including preparation and follow-through

  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Services team to implement investment and planning strategies aligned with client goals

  • Drive organic growth through client referrals, COI relationships, and partnership with the firm’s Business Development team

Client Profile

Martel clients are established professionals and families in the Portland/Vancouver metro area who have built real financial complexity and want a local team with the expertise and longevity to help them navigate it. Typical clients include:

  • Near-retirees and retirees (typically age 45–80+) navigating the highest-stakes planning window: retirement timing, drawdown strategy, Social Security, healthcare, and estate planning

  • Physicians, dentists, attorneys, engineers, and executives with complex compensation structures — partnership income, K-1s, equity, deferred compensation, or practice ownership

  • Business owners considering succession, a future sale, or how to reduce concentration of wealth in a single illiquid asset

  • Clients frustrated by advisor turnover or a transactional relationship at a large bank or wirehouse, looking for continuity and genuine engagement

  • Our clients value broad diversification, low-cost investments, and a straightforward approach focused on a long-term view.

Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of client-facing advisory experience in wealth management or related financial services business

  • CFP® certification preferred; candidates with equivalent experience and a demonstrated planning orientation will be considered

  • Strong relationship management and communication skills

  • Established or demonstrable professional network within the Portland/Vancouver metro area

  • Ability to develop new client relationships independently and in partnership with the firm

Preferred Expertise

  • Retirement and income planning — helping clients transition from accumulation to distribution, including Social Security timing, drawdown strategy, and tax-efficient income sourcing

  • Complex compensation and business income — partnership structures, deferred compensation, practice ownership, and pre-liquidity event planning

  • Integrated tax and estate planning — working alongside CPAs and estate attorneys to deliver coordinated, proactive advice across a client’s full financial picture

  • Investment planning and portfolio strategy — translating client goals and risk tolerance into clear, coherent investment plans in partnership with the portfolio services team

  • Family wealth and legacy planning — engaging both spouses and, where relevant, the next generation in meaningful financial conversations

Salary and Benefits

  • Expected base salary for this role is $120,000 - $175,000 per year, based on experience and fit, with a meaningful performance-based bonus.

  • Our employees enjoy a competitive compensation and benefits package, including 100% paid employee medical (includes vision) premiums, 401(k) plan with employer contribution after a year, PTO that increases with tenure in addition to sick time, additional paid holidays, and early office closure every Friday.

  • We encourage and support our employees in pursuit of CFP and CFA programs.

  • We recently completed an expansion of our office and are excited to share our beautiful new space with clients and our team. Our centrally located, Columbia River waterfront office provides an exciting place to work, and we enjoy regular team outings around the Portland–SW Washington area.

  • This position is in-office 5 days a week and is not remote.

  • If you are a team player with a love of the Pacific Northwest, come join us!

Martel Wealth Advisors is a fee-only, independent fiduciary firm with over 40 years of history serving the Portland/Vancouver community. We do not sell products or earn commissions.
