Duties and Responsibilities
- Counsels students and parents on financial aid information relevant to the individual student situation
- Monitors the office email and responds to student and parent emails requesting financial aid information
- Responds to questions and counseling needs in-person, by phone, virtually, and email means from currently enrolled students, prospective students, and parents
- Conducts outreach for the Office of Financial Aid to assist students with financial aid completion
- Assists prospective and current students with their verification process
- Works at Texan Services as needed when short-staffed per the Assistant Director
- Assists with the intake of verification documents, special circumstance appeals, TASFA applications, and other financial aid documentation
- Assists with the review of Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals
- Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to financial aid
- Represents the Office of Financial Aid at events and orientations to assist prospective and current students
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism and a customer service mindset
- Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs
- Ability to work individually or as a team in a dynamic organization
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend, give and follow both written and verbal instructions
- Ability to organize and make decisions
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to use tact, diplomacy and judgment in dealing with all customers
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Some experience in financial aid, customer service, or higher education
