Southeastern Oklahoma State University department of Financial Aid invites applications for the position of Financial Aid Counselor.
SUMMARY
To support the mission and function of the Financial Aid Office by working to counsel students and families providing accurate information regarding all financial aid programs, eligibility criteria, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities also include direct responsibility for the administration of aid for the off-campus locations and to assist with NCAA Compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Effectively communicate Student Financial Aid policies/procedures/federal and state guidelines/regulations to students, staff, and faculty regarding available sources of aid and eligibility requirement.
- Process, track and review financial aid files, electronically correct FAFSA.
- Track Drop/Add activity for off-campus locations.
- Run batches for bad ready report (high school concurrent/selective service).
- Process probation and denied letter notifications.
- Assist with NCAA Compliance with Financial Aid.
- Present programs on campus and at high schools.
- Be familiar with Ellucian Colleague.
- Work well independently and under pressure.
- Serve on University committees.
- Ongoing training and development.
- Other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (FUNCTIONS, DUTIES)
- Attendance and Dependability: The employee can be depended upon to report to the assigned duty station at the scheduled time. Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner and is conscientious, about assignments.
- Communication and Contact: The employee communicates effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside of the University.
- Relationships with Others: The employee works effectively and relates well with others including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the University. The employee exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working environment.
- Safety: Employee works safely, attends safety training offered/required, and follows appropriate safety rules and regulations. In relation to level of NIMs training completed, participates in incident management preparation and performs incident duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; outstanding oral and written communication skills, organizations skills, and proficient computer skills. Requires a commitment to diversity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse persons, and a high ability to establish rapport with students (customers). Must be able to work flexible hours. Including nights and weekends.
PREFERRED: 2-3 years' experience in Financial Aid.
The preferred start date is November 7, 2025.
