Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)

Binghamton University is seeking candidates for a full-time position as a Financial Analyst within the Central Business Office. The Financial Analyst will be responsible for assisting with the administering of University fee operations, maintaining fee compliance with SUNY and campus policy, performing financial analysis, and supporting institutional financial planning and reporting. This position requires analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate financial information clearly to a broad campus audience.
The Financial Analyst will be expected to work collaboratively across departments, interact collegially with campus leadership, and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct. The ideal candidate possesses flexibility, interpersonal skills, solid work ethic, attention to detail and a quality education in accounting/finance.
- Administer the University fee cycle, including communicating instructions, deadline, and submission requirements to campus departments
- Maintain and continuously improve the University fees website to ensure accuracy, transparency, and accessibility of fee-related information
- Manage campus fee inventory and SUNY fee registry
- Advise and assist departments in assembling fee documentation for submission to campus leadership and/or SUNY system Administration
- Communicate fee requests to campus leadership and/or SUNY, assist in gathering responsive data, proposing narrative to review questions, and/or managing any contingencies that SUNY sets in place
- Investigate and resolve fee compliance issues through financial analysis, projected-to-actual comparisons, and multi-year trend reporting
- Review, verify eligibility and approve/deny fee waiver requests timely and within campus policy. Communicate with students, parents, and campus community regarding fee waiver policy, process, eligibility, timeline and decisions
- Validate course fee data in Banner each academic term
- Generate ad-hoc financial reports using BI, SAS, Banner, and related systems; analyze data and present findings to support decision-making
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in accounting, finance, or related field
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Detail oriented
Preferred
- SUNY experience in Business Intelligence and/or Finance and Management System (FMS)
- Working knowledge of SAS Enterprise Guide (SAS EG)
