Flow Cytometry Research Assistant

We are seeking an enthusiastic and personable Research Assistant to join the Don Mason Facility of Flow Cytometry to provide comprehensive technical support to facilitate the smooth running of the analysis and sorting services of the SBS Flow Cytometry Facility.

The post-holder will be responsible for the operation and calibration of state-of-the-art cell analysis and cell sorting instruments. This service requires discussing researchers’ requirements, advising on experimental design, arranging appropriate bookings, processing samples according to SOPs, accurate recording of sample data, and quality control validation of results. Success requires excellent technical expertise in this field and adherence to good laboratory practice (GLP). You will work closely with the Flow Cytometry Facility Manager to maintain and run the facility’s equipment and to support day-to-day user requirements. You will contribute to the generation of high-quality research data and uphold the high-quality teaching standards of the Facility.

The post-holder should hold a BSc or higher in Cellular Biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry as well as relative work experience. You should have a good understanding biosafety legislation, the principles and applications of flow cytometry and proven analytical experience. Excellent interpersonal, organisation and time management skills are essential.

This post is to cover the absence of the substantive postholder, who is taking a period of maternity leave. The post is available from 1 August 2026 as a fixed-term contract for up to 15 months.
