Job Duties:
The Grinds are the on-campus coffee shops with five campus locations: Student Union, Golda Meir Library, Sandburg Hall, and Lubar Entrepreneurship Center. The Grind uses locally roasted coffee to create a great cup of coffee, as well as a wide selection of espresso drinks. Fresh bakery is served at most locations, as well as other beverage options for the non-coffee drinker.
Under the general supervision of a Food Service Manager, the incumbent will act as lead Supervisor for the operation of the university owned GRIND coffee shop unit(s) or other areas as assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for opening and/or closing procedures and daily operation of the unit(s) providing fast food type products as appropriate to the unit. Other duties include training and leading student supervisors, subordinate students and Temporary Appointment University Staff in food/beverage production, sanitation and customer service.
Daily responsibilities will include monitoring and maintaining inventory of products and supplies, assuring the display of products is attractive and pricing is accurate and that the unit(s) are properly staffed. Menu items prepared on site will utilize approved recipes and proper timing of production to assure that products are fresh and that waste is minimized. The incumbent will interact with customers to promote sales and is responsible for accurate cash handling and customer service.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Develops and schedules logistics and menus for daily and catering operations
- Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
- Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
- Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
- Assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff
- Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
Department: Restaurant Operations
The mission of Restaurant Operations is to provide a quality dining experience at an affordable price that enhances campus life and supports the overall mission of the University. It is the responsibility of Restaurant Operations to operate in a fiscally responsible manner, contribute fair-share support to the University, and sustain adequate reserves for future growth.
Compensation: The salary range is $20.25-$22.00 per hour; the final hourly rate is dependent upon the finalist's experience, education, qualifications and equity within the department. This is a Full-Time, Full-Year hourly appointment. This position comes with a competitive salary and benefit package.
Required Qualifications:
- At least two (2) years of supervisory and/or lead worker experience in a retail environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certificate of completion from a certified Food Safety program
- Cash handling experience in a retail environment
- Experience in employee scheduling and payroll
- Experience leading/supervising staff
- Experience with staff development and training
- Experience working in a higher education setting. Further experience working in higher education setting in a retail or similar area is strongly preferred.
Tentative Schedule: Monday-Thursday 10am-6:30, Friday 8am-4:30pm
