Overview
Objectives
Foreign Languages and Literatures graduates at Shanghai Jiao Tong University are expected to:
- Have deep understanding of the subject, and understand the status quo, world trends and the frontiers of academic research;
- Be able to conduct research with academic or practical value, and show innovation in academic achievements;
- Have a perfect command of one foreign language and preferably excellent command of another foreign language.

General requirements
- Master's degree for doctoral program applicants
- Degree certificates, in scanned files
- Transcripts, in scanned files. Doctoral program applicants are required to submit both undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
- Proof of language proficiency
- Scanned copy of passport.

- Personal statement and study plan
- Two letters of academic recommendation from scholars who are associate professors or above, or senior professionals in a related academic field
- If you are applying for programs of the School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology or School of Mechanical Engineering, you are required to contact the supervisor beforehand and provide an acceptance letter by the supervisor.
Tuition Fees
International tuition fees apply to students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the study country. In some regions, like the EU/EEA, or under certain agreements, students from partner countries may also pay domestic fees.
