Front-facing Staff Member
Job Description
South Mountain Community College is currently seeking a dedicated front-facing staff member to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff in planning, coordinating, and facilitating educational opportunities. Responsibilities include assisting with the enrollment process, conducting outreach for programs, and contributing to recruitment and retention efforts.
Key Duties:
- Provide student support services, including FAFSA workshops, pre-advisement, and admissions assistance.
- Perform administrative tasks such as answering student inquiries, serving as the first point of contact, and maintaining communication with both current and prospective students.
- Maintain continuous communication with faculty to ensure seamless student access and retention strategies.
- Build and sustain relationships with Guadalupe Community Partners to foster outreach and recruitment opportunities.
- Support the Hoop of Learning Program through collaboration with high school partners, tribal communities, and the District Office.
- Serve as the lead for part-time employees, ensuring weekly progress towards institutional and student success goals.
Essential Functions
40% - Acts as an initial primary point of contact for students and responds to student inquiries via in person, phone or electronically for information regarding enrollment, registration, admissions, financial aid, tuition, scholarships, internships, grants, testing, new student orientation, graduation and other program information. Assesses and identifies students needs and refers more complicated cases to the next level of student services and maintains a cohort of students for advising purposes.
30% - Maintains records and monitors and tracks students performance and progress. Assists with identifying resources needed to address students circumstances and potential barriers. Collects data on program participation and prepares program reports. Works with faculty and program management to identify and implement retention strategies and student success opportunities.
20% - Plans and coordinates special events. Prepares, designs and maintains correspondence, reports, presentations, program materials and documentation.
10% - Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs. OR High School Diploma/GED and three (3) years full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree
- Bilingual in foreign language, Spanish preferred
- Three (3) Years of experience in an office setting
- Two (2) Years of experience with customer service
- Experience working with diverse communities
Special Working Conditions
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment with tabling events outdoors when required. Travel Required: Commuting between SMCC Guadalupe Center and SMCC Main Campus on occasion.
Salary Range
$18.82 - $23.55/hourly, DOE
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. Summer Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7am-6pm.

Additional Requirements
