Superior de Agronomia of the University of Lisbon, pursuant to Articles 37 to 51, 61 and 62-A of the University Teaching Career Statute (Estatuto da Carreira Docente Universitária), republished by Decree-Law No. 205/2009 of 31 August, as amended by Law No. 8/2010 of 13 May (hereinafter referred to as the ECDU), and other applicable legislation, namely the General Regulations for Competitions for the Recruitment of Full, Associate and Assistant Professors of the University of Lisbon, approved by Rector’s order of 16 February 2015, published in Series II of the Diário da República No. 45, by Order No. 2307/2015 of 5 March (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations).
Joint Order No. 373/2000 of 31 March, issued by the Minister for State Reform and Public Administration and the Minister for Equality, establishes the mandatory inclusion in entry and promotion competitions of the following statement: “In compliance with paragraph (h) of Article 9 of the Constitution, the Public Administration, as an employer, actively promotes a policy of equal opportunities between men and women in access to employment and career advancement, taking scrupulous care to prevent any and all forms of discrimination.” Accordingly, the terms “candidate”, “recruited”, “professor”, and other similar terms are not used in this notice to indicate the gender of persons.
Likewise, no candidate may be privileged, favoured, prejudiced, deprived of any right, or exempted from any duty on the grounds of, namely, ancestry, age, sexual orientation, marital status, family situation, economic situation, education, social origin or condition, genetic heritage, reduced working capacity, disability, chronic illness, nationality, ethnic origin or race, place of origin, language, religion, political or ideological convictions, or trade union membership.
In accordance with Articles 37 to 51 of the ECDU and other applicable legislation, and with Article 8 of the Regulations, the following provisions shall apply:
I - Rector’s authorisation order
The opening of this competition was authorised by order of 18 March 2026 of the Rector of the University of Lisbon, issued after confirmation of the existence of adequate budgetary provision and that the post now put out to competition is provided for and unfilled in the Institute’s staffing map, and is therein characterised by the fact that its holder is required to perform the teaching and research duties assigned to a Full Professor in the disciplinary area of Rural Engineering.
II - Place of work

III - Admission requirements and grounds for exclusion of candidates
III.1 - Pursuant to Article 40 of the ECDU, only those who hold a doctoral degree awarded more than five years before, counted from the deadline for the submission of applications, and who also hold the title of Agregado may be admitted to this competition.
III.2 - The provisions of Chapter VI of the Regulations shall apply with regard to the proof and fulfilment of the admission requirements and the exclusion of candidates.
III.3 - Holders of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions must have obtained recognition of the doctoral degree under the terms of Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of 16 August, as currently in force.
III.4 - Recognition of the doctoral degree referred to in the preceding paragraph must be obtained by the end of the period granted for the conclusion of the contract, where the candidate ranked in an eligible position obtained the doctoral degree abroad.
III.5 - Candidates of foreign nationality, except those from countries with Portuguese as an official language, must demonstrate proficiency in spoken and written Portuguese at Common European Framework of Reference for Languages level C1, as established by the Council of Europe. This requirement must be officially certified through a Portuguese as a Foreign Language proficiency certificate issued by the Centre for Evaluation and Certification of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (CAPLE).
III.6 - The requirement referred to in the preceding paragraph must be fulfilled by the end of the period for the conclusion of the contract, where applicable.
III.7 - Failure to submit any of the documents required to support the application within the prescribed time limit and in accordance with the terms indicated in this Notice shall result in non-admission of the application, which shall be subject to review and decision by the President of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia prior to the Jury’s decision on absolute merit.
IV - Admission requirements in terms of absolute merit
IV.1 - The provisions of Article 10 of Chapter III of the Regulations shall apply with regard to the admission of candidates in terms of absolute merit.
IV.2 - The Jury shall decide on approval or rejection in terms of absolute merit by reasoned roll-call vote, with abstentions not being permitted.
IV.3 - A candidate shall be deemed approved in terms of absolute merit if he or she obtains a favourable vote from more than half of the voting members of the Jury.
IV.4 - A favourable vote regarding approval in terms of absolute merit must be based cumulatively on the following circumstances:
a) the branch of knowledge and/or specialisation in which the candidate’s doctoral degree and/or aggregation qualification was awarded is adequate for the performance of teaching duties in the disciplinary area for which this competition was opened;
b) the relevance, quality and currency of the candidate’s curriculum vitae, and of the most relevant and highest-impact academic contributions selected by the candidate, are adequate for the performance of the duties of Full Professor in the disciplinary area of this competition;
c) the Scientific-Pedagogical Project for the disciplinary area prepared by the candidate, required under paragraph d) of point VII.4 and specified in V.4.e), demonstrates that the candidate possesses the capacity required for the proper performance of the duties of Full Professor in the disciplinary area of this competition;
V - Evaluation parameters and ranking on the basis of relative merit, respective weighting, and final scoring system
V.1 - The purpose of this competition is to assess the candidates’ capacity and performance in the various aspects which, under Article 4 of the ECDU, form part of the duties to be performed should they be recruited as a result of the competition. Under Article 4 of the ECDU, university teaching staff are generally required to:
a) Carry out scientific research activities, cultural creation, or technological development;
b) Provide the teaching service assigned to them and supervise and guide students;
c) Participate in university extension activities, scientific dissemination, and the economic and social valorisation of knowledge;
d) Participate in the management of their respective university institutions;
e) Participate in other tasks assigned by the competent governing bodies that fall within the scope of university teaching activity.
V.2 - The selection method to be used shall be curriculum assessment, as provided for in Article 50(6) of the ECDU, Article 5(4), and Article 11 of the Regulations, covering the following areas:
a) The candidate’s pedagogical capacity, taking into account in particular, where applicable, the analysis of his or her previous pedagogical practice;
b) Scientific performance, namely as regards his or her contribution to the development and evolution of the disciplinary area;
c) University Extension, Scientific Dissemination and the Economic and Social Valorisation of Knowledge, which shall be referred to as Knowledge Transfer;
d) University Management;
e) Scientific-Pedagogical Project for the Disciplinary Area.
The areas indicated in paragraphs c) and d) must be considered within the scope of Article 50(6)(c) of the ECDU, concerning other activities relevant to the mission of the higher education institution.
V.3 - The curriculum assessment of the various candidates in each of these areas must take into account the disciplinary area for which the competition is opened.
V.4 - The parameters to be considered in the curriculum assessment of candidates in each of the areas set out in V.2, and the weighting to be assigned to each in the final classification, are those set out below, particular importance being given to the relevance, quality and currency of the candidate’s curriculum vitae, and to the ten most relevant and highest-impact academic contributions selected by the candidate and identified in document VII.4.b):
a) Pedagogical Capacity (20%):
i) Pedagogical content: parameter taking into account the pedagogical publications, software applications, and experimental prototypes produced by the candidate or in whose production the candidate participated, having regard to their nature and their impact on the national and international community;
ii) Teaching activity: parameter taking into account the curricular units coordinated and taught by the candidate, having regard to diversity, pedagogical practice, the student body, as well as the corresponding evaluation indicators;
iii) Innovation: parameter taking into account the candidate’s demonstrated capacity to promote new pedagogical initiatives, such as: the submission of well-founded and coherent proposals for the creation of new curricular units or the substantial reformulation of existing ones; creation or strengthening of experimental and/or computational laboratory infrastructures supporting teaching; creation or restructuring of groups of curricular units or study plans; improvement of pedagogical practice.
iv) Supervision and guidance of students: parameter taking into account the supervision of doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students, considering the number, quality, scope, and scientific/technological impact of the resulting publications, theses, dissertations, and final course projects, with particular distinction given to prize-winning works and international recognition;
v) Non-academic professional experience: parameter taking into account the influence of relevant teaching-related work carried out outside academia in the disciplinary area of the competition.
b) Scientific Performance (40%):
i) Scientific publications: parameter taking into account books, book chapters, articles in scientific journals, and papers in the proceedings of international conferences authored or co-authored by the candidate, considering: their nature; impact factor; number of citations; technological level; innovation; diversity; multidisciplinarity; international collaboration; importance of the contributions to advancing the current state of knowledge;
ii) Importance of the ten works selected by the candidate as the most representative, particularly as regards their contribution to the development and evolution of the disciplinary area for which the competition is opened.
iii) Coordination and participation in scientific projects: parameter taking into account the candidate’s participation in and coordination of scientific projects subject to competitive calls, considering: territorial scope; scale; technological level; importance of contributions; innovation; and diversity.
iv) Creation and strengthening of laboratory resources, mesocosms, field facilities, or trials: parameter taking into account the candidate’s participation in and coordination of initiatives resulting in the creation or strengthening of experimental and/or computational laboratory infrastructures supporting research.
v) Promotion of scientific activity: parameter taking into account the candidate’s demonstrated capacity to coordinate and lead research teams, including the supervision of doctoral researchers;
vi) Recognition by the international scientific community: parameter taking into account: awards from scientific societies; editorial activities in scientific journals; participation in editorial boards of scientific journals; coordination and participation in programme committees of scientific events; invited lectures at scientific meetings or universities; membership of scientific societies with competitive admission; and other similar distinctions.
c) Knowledge Transfer (15%):
i) Industrial property: parameter taking into account authorship and co-authorship of patents, industrial models, and designs, considering their nature, territorial scope, technological level, and the results achieved;
ii) Legislation and technical standards: parameter taking into account participation in the preparation of legislative proposals and standards, considering their nature, territorial scope, and technological level;
iii) Scientific and technological dissemination publications: parameter taking into account articles in national journals and conferences and other scientific and technological dissemination publications, in view of their professional and social impact;
iv) Service provision and consultancy: parameter taking into account participation in activities involving the business environment and the public sector, considering the type of participation, scale, diversity, technological intensity, and innovation;
v) Conception, design, and production of achievements in Engineering, Management, or Architecture: parameter taking into account the value of relevant professional experience for the School’s activities;
vi) Service to the scientific community and society: parameter taking into account participation in and coordination of scientific and technological dissemination initiatives, considering their nature and the results achieved, when carried out for: the scientific community, namely through the organisation of congresses and conferences; the media; companies and the public sector.
vii) Professional training actions: parameter taking into account participation in and coordination of technological training actions directed at companies and the public sector, considering their nature, technological intensity, and the results achieved.
d) University Management (15%):
i) Positions in higher education institutions and their organic units: parameter taking into account the nature of the position and the responsibility involved;
ii) Positions in units and course coordination: parameter taking into account the position, scope of action, and results achieved by the candidate in the exercise of management duties in departments and research units, course coordination bodies, scientific areas, or sections;
iii) Positions and temporary tasks: parameter taking into account the nature, scope of action, and results achieved by the candidate when participating in editorial activities of international journals, the evaluation of scientific programmes, academic examination panels, competition juries, and positions and temporary tasks assigned by the competent governing bodies, among others;
iv) Other positions: parameter taking into account the exercise of positions referred to in Article 73 of the University Teaching Career Statute (ECDU) and positions in national and international scientific organisations.
e) Scientific-Pedagogical Project for the Disciplinary Area (10%): assesses the quality and scope of the scientific and pedagogical strategy proposed by the candidate for the disciplinary area of the competition, taking into account the human resources and available infrastructures, and the candidate’s vision for the future development of the disciplinary area at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, with a maximum of 20,000 characters including spaces.
V.5 - Once the candidates approved in terms of absolute merit have been identified, on the basis of point IV above, the Jury shall rank those candidates in accordance with the procedure laid down in Article 20 of the Regulations.
VI - Public hearings
VI.1 - At its first meeting, the Jury shall decide whether it is necessary to hold public hearings for all candidates approved in terms of absolute merit, such hearings being intended exclusively to clarify issues relating to the documents submitted by the candidates, as provided for in the Regulations and pursuant to Article 50(4)(b) of the ECDU.
VI.2 - Where public hearings are deemed necessary, they shall take place between the 20th and the 50th day following the date of admission of the candidates in terms of absolute merit, and all candidates shall be informed, at least 5 days in advance, of the date and place at which such public hearings will take place.
VI.3 - The public hearings referred to in the preceding paragraph may be held by teleconference, and the Jury must ensure that they take place under equal conditions for all candidates.
VI.4 - The Jury may also request candidates to submit supplementary documentation related to the curriculum vitae presented, pursuant to Article 50(4)(a) of the ECDU.
VII - Conditions for submission of applications and supporting documents
VII.1 - Applications must be submitted in person or sent by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt to the Instituto Superior de Agronomia of the University of Lisbon, located at Tapada da Ajuda 1349-017, within 30 working days following publication of this Notice in the Diário da República.
VII.2 - Failure to submit any of the documents required to support the application within the prescribed time limit shall result in non-admission of the application, which shall be subject to review and decision by the President of the Institute prior to the Jury’s decision on absolute merit.
VII.3 - Applications must mandatorily be accompanied by the corresponding application form for this Notice (in paper form and duly signed), available on the website at https://www.isa.ulisboa.pt/sites/default/files/documents/document/default/form_docente.docx, and the candidate must express consent for communications and notifications within the scope of the competition procedure to be made by electronic mail, indicating the relevant address.
VII.4 - The following documents must be submitted in digital format (USB drive) and in non-editable format (PDF) with the application:
a) Curriculum vitae including:
i) teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and university management activities considered relevant to the competition, namely by identifying the activities carried out in the different aspects which, under Article 4 of the ECDU, form part of the duties to be performed by a Full Professor, taking into account the evaluation areas and parameters set out in point V.4 of this Notice and considered relevant to the disciplinary area for which the competition is opened; the candidate shall structure the curriculum vitae in such a way as to facilitate the prompt and complete identification of his or her contribution under each of the subparagraphs of point V.4, in the sequence established therein;
ii) indication of the “Scopus ID” enabling identification of the list of publications, the respective number of citations, and the H-index according to the Scopus databases;
b) Document identifying the 10 most relevant academic contributions for the disciplinary area of the competition, together with the corresponding justification of their relevance;
c) Electronic version of the scientific articles mentioned in the preceding paragraph;
d) Scientific-Pedagogical Project for the Disciplinary Area, as specified in paragraph e) of point V.4 of the Notice;
e) Declaration on honour that the candidate meets the requirements for admission to the competition set out in the Notice and in the law (attached as an Annex to this Notice).
VIII - Language
The documents supporting the application must be submitted in Portuguese or English.
IX - Composition of the Jury
Pursuant to Articles 45 and 46 of the ECDU and Article 14 of the Regulations, the Jury shall be composed of the following members:

Professor Maria Leonor Rodriguez Sinobas, Catedrática de Universidad at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Agronómica, Alimentaria y de Biosistemas of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid;
Professor Félix Ramón Francés Garcia, Catedrático de Universidad at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Caminos, Canales y Puertos of the Universitat Politècnica de València;
Professor José Rafael Marques da Silva, Full Professor at the School of Sciences and Technology of the University of Évora;
Professor Carlos Manuel Antunes Lopes, Full Professor at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia of the University of Lisbon;
Professor Maria Teresa Marques Ferreira, Full Professor at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia of the University of Lisbon;
