The Faculty of Science, Institute of Physics and Astronomy, at the University of Potsdam invites applications for the following position to be filled as soon as possible:
Full Professorship (W 3) for Experimental Physics
We are seeking an exceptional researcher with an international reputation in light–matter interaction, particularly in excited states, and charge carrier dynamics. Expertise in optoelectronics, photocatalysis, or soft matter systems is highly valued. The successful candidate will actively contribute to the CRC1636 “Elementary Processes of Light-Driven Reactions at Nanoscale Metals”, fostering an interdisciplinary physical–chemical perspective, and is encouraged to establish additional links within the institute’s research in quantum physics, functional condensed matter, or biological physics. Research involving the preparation of functional materials and devices, especially using soft matter and polymer physics methods available at the Institute of Physics and Astronomy in Potsdam, is preferred.
Applicants must have an excellent publication record and proven success in securing third-party funding. Teaching duties include the general experimental physics curriculum in the bachelor’s and master’s programs, including lectures for teacher training students, as well as more specialized classes in light–matter interaction, soft matter, or quantum phenomena, in German and English. Active supervision of students and participation in academic self-governance are expected.
If you have any questions, please contact Prof. Dr. Matias Bargheer (matias.bargheer@uni-potsdam.de).
The University of Potsdam values its diversity and thus pursues the goals of equal opportunities and diversity in accordance with the general principle of equal treatment. One of the UP’s strategic goals is to significantly increase the proportion of women in research and teaching. Therefore, the UP expressly invites applications from qualified female scientists. People with a severe disability will be given preference if they are equally qualified. Periods of time taken for parental leave or caregiving are taken into account when assessing applicants’ academic careers. The implementation of equality and diversity standards in the respective field of work is expected.
