The Faculty of Languages and Literatures invites applications for a

Full Professorship (W3)
of Phonetics and Speech Processing

(Chair)

commencing on 1 April 2028.

The chair is expected to represent the full breadth of the discipline in both research and teaching. We are looking for candidates with outstanding, internationally oriented academic qualifications who have an excellent track record in the following areas:

  • Experimental phonetics, in particular speech production and perception
  • Combination of basic research and language technology
  • Cognition and human speech processing

The professorship will also supervise and develop the Bavarian Archive for Speech Signals (BAS), including the BAS Web Services and industrial connections, as well as supervise and further develop the existing Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in phonetics.

Close cooperation with the existing AI Chair of Spoken Language Processing at the Institute is anticipated. The willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation within the faculty and university by participating in the development of the Munich Center for Linguistics, the faculty’s doctoral program of the Class of Language and the Center for Information and Language Processing (CIS) is also expected.

The Institute for Phonetics and Speech Processing ranks among the world's leading centers for research into spoken language. It features a range of well-equipped laboratory facilities designed to support experimental research across all areas of spoken language, providing high-quality, applied training as well as the opportunity to undertake advanced research projects.

Prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification, teaching skills at university level, excellent academic achievements and a productive and promising research program.
