Full Time Academic Family Physician
The Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University is seeking physicians who are interested in an academic family medicine career.
Do you want to make a difference in the world? Are you interested in deepening your understanding of the importance of primary care to the health of communities? The Department of Family Medicine is a dynamic environment of enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who share that passion. The current landscape of primary care is dense with challenges, but also opportunities. If you want to be involved in the reimagining of primary care in Ontario and Canada, consider this opportunity at McMaster University, where creativity and passion fuel the innovation and discovery for which McMaster is renowned.
McMaster University and the Department of Family Medicine invites applications for full-time faculty member positions with responsibility for clinical supervision of a teaching practice and active staff appointment at the McMaster Family Health Team (MFHT). In partnership with the Indigenous Health Learning Lodge, we encourage Indigenous applicants who wish to incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing and practicing into their academic career. There are also opportunities to support existing and emerging department priorities including equity, diversity & inclusion (EDI), planetary health, obstetrics, and health system transformation/primary care advocacy. Applicants should also be interested in developing leadership for collective action in clinical and educational transformation.
The successful candidate will join an interprofessional practice and department, providing a full scope of comprehensive family medicine care, serving patients in a variety of urban and inner-city settings. The average practice size in our teaching clinics is 1,000 patients, cared for by a very cohesive and supportive interprofessional team in state of the art clinical and teaching facilities.
This position connects you to an environment that’s intentionally infused with support and mentorship opportunities for development within academic family medicine driven by clinical excellence, teaching, and scholarship interests. Academic activities include teaching family medicine residents and medical students, contributing to the academic development and administration of the Department of Family Medicine, and participating in scholarly activities to further the discipline of family medicine.
If you are an early career physician, there is no better place to learn and be supported. You will receive clinical mentorship, resources for developing scholarly ideas, and support for leadership development. You will have the opportunity to explore and identify what your passions are and how you want to contribute to better health and a brighter world. If you are mid-career physician, you will have an opportunity to contribute to health system transformation and educational leadership.
We highly encourage candidates with a diverse range of lived experiences. As a department, we are deeply committed to Indigenous reconciliation as well as the creation of a culture which seeks inclusive equity. We expect all full-time faculty members to demonstrate a commitment to working through an EDI, ARAO (anti-racism & anti-oppression) and decolonial lens, with strong valuing of Indigenous ways of knowing and wisdom.
Not only will you experience a professionally enriching work environment but also an environment rich in recreational and cultural opportunities. You will enjoy the hidden secrets of Hamilton, bordered by the Niagara Escarpment, wine country, and the Bruce Trail.
The successful candidate must have a CCFP and a license to practice in Ontario. Comprehensive family medicine experience is a requirement. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
We encourage you to review the recruitment section on our website to better understand if you might be a fit for us. If you self-identify as part of an equity-deserving group (EDG), we invite you to explore the resources available for employees at the departmental, faculty and university level.
To apply, please forward:
-A letter of interest along with a curriculum vitae;
• A brief statement describing any contributions made or planned in relation to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion or inclusive excellence in teaching, research or service within higher education, community-based or other profession settings (2-page maximum)
