Full Time Anatomy Faculty - College of Osteopathic Medicine

Position Summary

Anatomy Faculty will contribute to the development, delivery, and assessment of the curriculum. The faculty member will develop a program of scholarly activity related to anatomical sciences and will serve to contribute to the mission of the medical school and University.

This position reports to the Chair of Anatomy. Faculty rank commensurate with experience. For this position, 60 % is academic, 30 % is service and 10 % is research and scholarly activity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Academic:

  • Teach and be willing to serve as course coordinator for one or more courses within the prescribed curriculum and participate in the educational offerings of the department.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures to students in formal classroom setting, deliver laboratory instruction and be available to assist students during defined office hours. Participate in informal educational programs, including, but not limited to, laboratories, clinical case scenarios, TBL sessions, etc. as assigned by the Department Chair.
  • Seek and evaluate new educational procedures to improve the knowledge of students.
  • Prepare appropriate evaluations for the students.
  • Perform related duties such as advising students, and act as an advisor to specific students.
  • Maintain and upgrade knowledge in the anatomical sciences via reading literature and attending various seminars and professional meetings.
  • Work harmoniously with department employees as well as other university personnel.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of interprofessional and inter-disciplinary educational activities with other departments in the COM and university.

Service and Scholarship:

  • Serve on committees within the medical school as assigned.
  • Represent the COM by serving on state and national anatomy committees.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the University to develop and implement interprofessional educational curriculum and clinical experiences.
  • Participate in interviewing applicants for potential admission to the COM.
  • Participate as an item writer for the USMLE and/or NBOME.
  • Participate in required COM faculty development.
  • Be active in scholarly activity and publish findings in professional journals as appropriate.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in anatomy or related field from an accredited institution required.
  • Must have a previously demonstrated commitment to anatomical education in a medical education setting.
  • Strong candidates will have significant experience with curriculum development, cadaver dissection, virtual/augmented reality anatomy teaching software, and anatomical ultrasound education.
  • Must have excellent written, verbal, management, administrative, and organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff, and students as well as build and unify teams.
  • Must be supportive of the mission of the COM and be willing to collaborate with the University and COM leadership to achieve the mission and vision.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in graduate or undergraduate medical education is preferred.

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.
