Full-time Faculty - Chemistry
Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Manhattan invites applications for a full-time faculty position teaching chemistry to begin in September 2026. We seek teacher-scientists who are creative in engaging students, and dedicated to working with adolescents. More information about BHSEC is available here.
Successful applicants will have college teaching experience, will hold a Ph.D. or Master's in Chemistry or a related field, and will be skilled educators interested in engaging and challenging early college students. They will work collaboratively with colleagues in developing and teaching an innovative curriculum. Candidates should be prepared to teach Chemistry at multiple levels, including college survey courses and high school courses. The teaching load is generally three courses, each with a laboratory component.
This full-time position provides the opportunity to work with a dedicated faculty of scholars, scientists and artists, most of whom hold terminal degrees in their fields. BHSEC's high school chemistry class is a team-taught course with weekly meetings to align pedagogy and assessment. Post-doctoral candidates or graduate students interested in this position will receive coaching and teaching support in working with younger students.
In their four years here, BHSEC students earn an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College (at no cost to families) in addition to a New York State high school diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class size, seminar-style discussion and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment.

Compensation: The compensation for this teaching position is based on the NYC DOE salary scale found on this page. The salary range is between 65-100K.
The position may be funded by either Bard College or the NYC Department of Education
- A Master's or PhD in Chemistry, or related field
- Experience teaching Chemistry classes at a variety of levels. High school teaching experience is strongly desirable.
- New York State teaching certification (desirable)
- The ideal candidate will be a skilled educator with a demonstrated interest in engaging and challenging younger students with diverse racial backgrounds, economic backgrounds, and a variety of approaches to learning and/or needs for learning supports
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate a continued interest in the ongoing work in their field
- The ideal candidate will understand cultural difference and help to uplift ideas from underrepresented groups to improve the equity balance in education
- The ideal candidate will have a commitment to advancing equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic backgrounds
- Preference will be given to those candidates who have earned a Ph.D. in their field and have both college and high school teaching experience
