SALARY: Anticipated starting salary is $57,013.00 - $60,000.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
North Shore Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty opening in the Computer & Information Sciences Department. The department offers courses and programs in computer science, computer networking, cybersecurity, computer programming, database management. This faculty member will participate in the teaching, effective delivery and further development and enhancement of the departmental offerings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teach Computer Science courses in one or more of the following areas: Cisco networking and security, computer programming, data analysis, and other areas as assigned by the Division Dean in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Utilize effective teaching strategies to maximize student retention and success, develop critical thinking skills and support a learner-centered environment.
- Participate in the development, implementation and assessment of pedagogical methods that facilitate student understanding and retention of computer science related concepts.
- Participate in the development and effective delivery of new courses (face-to-face, online and hybrid) as well as in the evaluation and on-going revision of current curricula via program review.
- Assist in determining appropriate student learning outcomes for various computer science courses and programs. Actively participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes at all levels.
- Observe all college and departmental computer laboratory requirements, and provide a safe and appropriate computer laboratory experience for all students.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and staff from other departments and disciplines.
- Provide academic advisement to traditional and nontraditional students.
- Participate in appropriate college service activities (e.g. committee membership, development of/enhancement to courses/programs and/or resources, program review, recruitment and retention activities).
- Participate in professional development opportunities to maintain expertise and infuse new methodologies into departmental offerings.
- Participate in the coordination of departmental courses and initiatives, as needed.
- Travel between campuses as needed to fulfill workload requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Interim Dean of STEM & Business
Job Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in the areas of network security, Python, and Java.
- Available to teach in-person at North Shore Community College campuses in Danvers, MA and Lynn, MA
- Demonstrated success working with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the community college, to teaching excellence, and to continuous improvement of high standards for student learning.
- Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or a National background check as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications and Experiences:
- PhD in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
- Cisco CCNA Security certificate and Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching certificate.
- Teaching experience. Community college teaching experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in course development and teaching in multiple modalities.
- Experience in developing and assessing student learning outcomes.
- Experience with the integration of technology, OER (Open Education Resources), student-oriented software, and multimedia formats in course development and delivery.
- Knowledge and experience with creative and innovative instructional techniques to facilitate the student learning process
