Full-Time Faculty Position in Journalism and Media Studies
Position Overview
The MA program in Multiplatform Journalism (https://chss.aua.am/mamj/) at the American University of Armenia (AUA) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Journalism & Media Studies, starting in July 2026. Faculty members at AUA are expected to teach three courses per semester, pursue an active research agenda, and engage in program development and university service.

The MAMJ Program at AUA is a 14-month graduate program funded by a U.S. State Department grant that enters its second year in June 2026. The mission of the program is to train the next generation of Armenian journalists to reach the highest professional journalistic standards and to create fact-based and engaging news content for the public.
Responsibilities
- Teach practice-based and theoretical journalism courses in the MA program.
- Teach undergraduate communications courses in the BA program in English & Communications.
- Engage actively in research that contributes to the fields of Journalism, Journalism Studies, or Media Studies.
- Contribute to curricular and programmatic developments.
- Mentor students in their academic and professional development.
- Participate in program, college, and university service activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues affiliated with the Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) at AUA (https://chss.aua.am/center-for-excellence-in-journalism/)
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have professional experience as a journalist and possess a robust background in teaching and research within the field of Journalism and/ or Media Studies. We welcome scholars who can teach multimedia production skills, including broadcast, audio, and interactive media as well as fundamental news writing and reporting. Experience with student media and capstone project advising is a plus. Candidates must hold a PhD in Journalism, Media Studies, or a closely related discipline, or be ABD with an expected PhD by the time of hire. Applicants at the assistant professor level should have some teaching experience and a record of peer-reviewed publications. Candidates applying for associate or full professor ranks should demonstrate substantial teaching experience alongside an extensive portfolio of peer-reviewed work commensurate with rank and experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching non-native English speakers and/or conducting academic work in an international context. We particularly encourage applications from individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to AUA’s BAC (Belonging, Access, Community) principles, social and environmental justice, anti-racism, culturally sustaining practices, and accessibility within their research, teaching, and service.
Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with the university-wide pay scale and will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
