Job Summary

Dallas College is seeking a licensed veterinarian to join the faculty of its AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program at the Cedar Valley Campus. This full-time faculty role (30 hours/week, 9-month contract) offers a unique opportunity to combine classroom instruction with clinical care for animals in a modern, well-equipped teaching facility. Applicants must hold a DVM (or equivalent degree) and be licensed, or eligible for licensure, to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Texas.

This position includes a blend of instructional and clinical responsibilities. Teaching will occur across multiple modalities-including traditional classroom instruction, in-person labs, and online delivery-with an emphasis on sound pedagogy and effective student learning assessment. Additional responsibilities include providing veterinary care to animals in the program, supervising students in laboratory and clinical settings, and contributing to broader institutional efforts that support the mission and strategic goals of Dallas College.

Faculty expectations include active participation in institutional service and leadership, including service on committees and contributions to departmental initiatives. Faculty are also expected to comply with all college and program accreditation standards and fulfill ongoing professional development requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • This position includes 60% teaching and 40% clinical veterinary care of animals presented to teaching labs in the Veterinary Technology program.
  • Examine patients presented for veterinary care, diagnose and order appropriate treatments, and supervise students providing patient care as directed.
  • Perform veterinary surgeries, primarily spays and neuters, and supervise anesthesia and sedation of small animal patients in clinical labs.
  • Maintain veterinary medical records for care provided to patients
  • Assumes responsibility for diagnostic, prescriptive, surgical, consultative, and referral services.
  • Familiarity with common livestock procedures such as castration and dehorning are a plus.
  • Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College
  • Mentors, assists, and provides positive interaction with students.
  • Completes required Dallas College professional development training hours per academic year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine
  • Current, valid, and unencumbered Texas State Veterinary license and DEA license.
  • Three years of demonstrated clinical practice experience.
  • Ability to provide preventive health care, and to diagnose and treat medical conditions in animals presented for teaching labs in the Veterinary Technology Program.
  • Experience with anesthesia and sedation in small animal patients.
  • Ability to perform soft tissue surgeries (primarily OHE, neuter) in small animal patients.
  • Maintains current veterinary liability insurance.
  • Must have a current valid driver's license and good driving record. Official transcripts will be required.
  • Bilingual and/or Multilingual preferred

Physical Requirements

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. May be required to lift ten pounds or more depending on situation or emergency which may occur.
