The Blinn College District is searching for a Full Time - HVAC Technician III at our Bryan Campus.
Job Summary
To perform complex and independent routine and preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC/R equipment, but not limited to condensers, pumps, motors, coils, fans, and blowers, filters, boilers, cooling towers and related ancillary equipment.
Note: The term HVAC/R relates to Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
Principal Accountabilities
- Describe the job's activities in terms that enable someone who knows nothing about the job to understand what is done in each activity.
- Then specify the end result each activity is to achieve.
- Perform preventative maintenance as per established preventative maintenance program, and demonstrate proactive maintenance procedures.
- Respond to and complete work requests for problems with the HVAC/R units or systems, train lower-level techs.
- Troubleshoot and make repairs to heating and direct expansion HVAC/R systems, electrical wiring related to HVAC/R equipment, soldering or welding of Freon or water lines, replacing HVAC components of units and replacing complete HVAC units.
- Monitor computerized HVAC/R based control systems.
- Participate in projects relating to the HVAC/R department and systems.
- Participate actively in established safety programs designed to provide a safe work environment.
- Maintain a parts inventory for common repairs.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications
- Five (5) or more years' experience with HVAC systems.
- Has an approved EPA Certified License to handle and purchase refrigerants.
- Mechanical knowledge.
- Valid Texas driver's license in good standing or ability to obtain one.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented by vocational or special training in the air conditioning, electrical, or mechanical field.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and behaviors)
- Knowledge of HVAC/R equipment functions, repair, and maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge and ability to perform preventative maintenance services as well as minor and major repair on HVAC/R equipment.
- Knowledge of safety procedures relating to HVAC/R standards and must adherence to all safety standards and work practices as set by the Central Plant.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot all types of HVAC equipment malfunctions.
- Computer literacy and the ability to use Microsoft Office 365 products as well as Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Well organized and able to prioritize work, and able to work independently without close supervision.
- Ability to work inside and outside in all weather conditions.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate with co-workers, supervisors and internal and external customers.
- Near visual acuity, depth perception, field of vision and color vision.
- Ability to stoop, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawling, stretching, twisting of upper body, prolong standing on concrete floors and walking over uneven terrain, and ability to lift 50 pounds and unstable objects.
- Knowledge and understanding of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to program areas, principles and practices of HVAC.
- Regular and punctual attendance at the workplace is required. Ability to work overtime may be required to complete a job in progress, or to handle emergency situations that may occur outside of regular work hours.
- Be able to take after hour call(s).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with chill water and hot water heating and cooling units.
- Previous experience with refrigerated chilling systems.
Preferred Competencies
- Previous experience directly related to direct expansion air conditioning and gas fired heating systems.
- Previous experience with HVAC energy management programs and systems.
- HVAC/R Industry Certifications
Special Notes To Applicants
This position will perform job duties for the Blinn Bryan and RELLIS campuses in Bryan, Texas.
This is an on-campus, 40 hours a week position.
Monday - Friday
This is a 12 month, benefits-eligible position. Blinn College pays 100% of health insurance for full-time employees, 50% for dependents, and two times your annual salary in life insurance benefits. Yearly leave time includes:
96 hours vacation
