10-Month Tenure Track Position
COMPENSATION: Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425.
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS: Comprehensive benefit package which includes:
District paid HMO medical, dental and vision insurance for the employee and dependents.
District paid $50,000 life insurance policy for the employee.
Participation in CalSTRS Teachers Retirement System.

Representative Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Primary responsibility will be instructing students in college freshman and sophomore business courses mainly in economics and/or business.
  • Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, which may include various sites, evening and/or weekends, face-to-face, hyflex, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Must be present on campus to teach face-to-face classes and hold in-person office hours.
  • A working knowledge and experience with assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), and using the results to make improvements in teaching and learning.
  • Willingness and ability to develop, review and maintain the Economics program in such areas as curriculum development, annual program review, and use of instructional technology.
  • Participate in full-time faculty responsibilities including, but not limited to department meetings, office hours, committee assignments, professional development, program development, staff development activities, extracurricular activities in the discipline, such as club advising.
  • Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Comply with District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties.
  • Demonstrate a student-centered approach of teaching to inspire and motivate students to succeed.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's in economics OR bachelor's in economics AND master's in business, business administration, business management, business education, finance or political science OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience teaching economics in higher education, preferably at the community college level.
  • Experience or certification in teaching courses in an online format using Canvas learning management system (LMS), including regular and substantive interaction with students.
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, ethnic backgrounds, special needs students, and underrepresented populations.
  • Experience in economics, finance, and/or business in the private and/or public sector.

Must have the sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.
