The Blinn College District is searching for a Full Time Instructor - Program Coordinator - sUAS (Drone Technician Program) at our Brenham Campus.

The Blinn College District is seeking a Full-Time Program Coordinator / Instructor - sUAS (Drone Technician Program) at the Brenham Campus within the Mathematics, Business, Engineering, and Technology (MBET) Division.

Objective
Blinn College expects all faculty members to demonstrate a commitment to student engagement, student success, instructional excellence, and workforce alignment.
This position serves in a dual capacity as both a full-time faculty member and Program Coordinator for the Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) / Drone Technician program. The Coordinator provides instructional leadership, ensures FAA regulatory compliance, supports dual credit expansion, and manages program growth aligned with industry standards and workforce needs. District-wide travel and travel to off-site campus locations may be required.

Principal Accountabilities

Instruction and Classroom Management

  • Teach sUAS (Drone Technician) program courses in accordance with WECM guidelines.
  • Maintain access to students through office hours and electronic communication.
  • Prepare, maintain, and utilize an accurate course syllabus and assessments for each course using institutional guidelines.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and aviation technologies.
  • Conduct classroom, lab, and live flight instruction in compliance with FAA safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation and attendance.
  • Conduct classes and final exams punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.

Program Coordination and Leadership

  • Serve as primary safety officer and FAA-compliant instructional authority for the sUAS program.
  • Coordinate program scheduling, admissions, registration processes, and textbook ordering.
  • Collaborate with the dean, assistant deans, and Curriculum Resource Team (CRT) on curriculum development and revision.
  • Support dual credit partnerships with area high schools, including off-site instruction coordination.
  • Mentor embedded high school instructors to ensure credentialing alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, FAA regulations, and accrediting requirements.
  • Assist in grant deliverables and reporting related to workforce and aviation initiatives.
  • Support equipment fleet management, inventory oversight, and aviation liability mitigation.

Student Success

  • Advise or refer students to available academic support, advising, certification pathways, and workforce opportunities.
  • Support students in preparing for FAA Part 107 certification and related industry credentials.
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with students and industry partners.

Assessment Duties

  • Assess student performance through formative and summative assessments aligned with workforce competencies.
  • Participate in program-level assessment and continuous improvement processes.
  • Assist in collection and reporting of student learning outcomes and workforce alignment data.

Professional Development and Service

  • Maintain FAA certifications and required aviation currency.
  • Participate in professional development activities aligned with aviation technology and workforce education.
  • Engage in collegial activities across the department, division, and community partnerships.
  • Participate in advisory committees and industry engagement initiatives.

Institutional Responsibilities

  • Submit timely college reports and forms.
  • Comply with all college policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Attend required institutional meetings, orientations, and trainings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Required Degree, License, or Certifications

  • Associate degree or higher in any field from an accredited institution.
  • Current FAA Remote Pilot Certification (Part 107)
  • OR
  • Current FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI - Airplane) and Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument
  • OR
  • Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of non-teaching work experience in the aviation, drone, or related industry field.

Minimum Competencies

  • Ability to instruct students while achieving workforce-aligned learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FAA regulations and aviation safety standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, administration, industry partners, and K-12 collaborators.
  • Strong organizational and program management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching at the college or secondary level.
  • Experience delivering dual credit or workforce education programs.
  • Experience managing aviation or drone equipment fleets.
  • Experience with industry partnerships or grant-funded programs.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Aviation, Engineering Technology, or related field.

This is a 12-month, benefits-eligible position. Blinn College pays 100% of health insurance for full-time employees, 50% for dependents, and two times your annual salary in life insurance benefits. Yearly leave time includes:

  • 96 hours vacation
  • 40 hours discretionary
  • 16 hours personal
  • 8 hours sick each month.
