Therapy
Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse
student population, including low socioeconomic and
first-generation students
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in teaching or training excellence at
the college or professional level
- At least two years of related professional work experience
(Parks and Recreation, Summer Camps, Non-Profit Recreation like
YMCA's or Boys and Girls Clubs)
- Certified Recreation Therapist (RTC: CA, CTRS: National)
- Experience successfully working with populations
demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB
student body
- Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and
culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom
Duties:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Recreation Therapy
and Recreation Management. Mode of instruction is primarily
in-person but may include online or hybrid courses
- Develop relationships with internal and external partners to
further expand student opportunities in Recreation and Leisure
Studies
- Participate in service to the Department, College, University,
Profession, and Community

About the College:
The College of Health
& Human Services has 11 departments, including three clinical
programs (Nursing, Physical Therapy, & Speech Language
Pathology). We have 21 bachelor's degree programs, 22 master's
degrees, and three doctoral programs. We have over 8,000 students
with the largest number of graduate students in the university
(above 2200). We have over 2,200 affiliation agreements with
community partners, including hospitals, clinical and internship
sites.
About the Department:
The Department of
Recreation and Leisure Studies offers undergraduate degrees in two
areas:
Recreation Management
Oversee recreational
programs at parks, sports facilities, community centers, and other
institutions. Recreation managers plan, organize, and direct
recreation and leisure programs.
Recreational Therapy
Help improve a patient's
physical, social, and emotional well-being. Recreational therapists
plan, coordinate, and direct recreation-based treatment programs
for people with disabilities, injuries, or other health
concerns.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
A background check
(including a criminal records check and telephone reference check
with most recent employer) must be completed satisfactorily before
any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to
satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the
application status of applicants or continued employment of current
CSU employees who apply for the position.

The person holding this position is considered a "mandated
