Full-time lecturer in Mathematical Foundations of Computing

Teaching Responsibilities

In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Computer Science (CSE) program and possibly a sibling program dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as graduate courses in the Computer Science (MCS). The expected workload for the in-class lecture conduct is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals to 45 minutes).

Teaching should reflect current research methods and results, comprising lectures on two to four modules from the following areas:

  • Calculus
  • Algebra
  • Discrete Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Theoretical Computer Science
  • Applied Maths for CS
  • Mathematical foundations of Machine Learning

The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor's and master's theses and mentoring Ph.D. students.

Research Responsibilities

As a faculty member of a research-oriented university, the successful candidate is expected to significantly contribute to VGU's scientific profile through innovation. This includes and is not limited to comprehensive activities in basic research as well as applied research in one or several of the following fields: optimization (including lost/cost functions, stochastics), statistics (including Bayes' theorem, sampling, cross-entropy loss), computational complexity & automata theory (including advanced algorithms, formal methods), and foundations of machine learning (including linear algebra and calculus).

Administrative responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the Computer Science Program by participating in administrative, marketing and other public activities of the program in consultation with the Academic Coordinator of the study program and the German partner university, namely Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.

Qualification

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university.
