Full-time lecturer in Mathematics
The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified full-time lecturer in Mathematics. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in this field or a closely related field and have a strong background in research. Relevant international experience is advantageous. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes.
Teaching Responsibilities
In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach Mathematics courses in the Faculty of Engineering, mainly in the Bachelor's program in Sustainable Process Engineering (SPE). The expected workload is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals 45 minutes). Teaching should reflect current research methods and results, and includes lectures on the following modules: Linear Algebra and Calculus, Advanced Calculus and Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Numerical Mathematics. These courses are subject to change based on program needs and agreement. Courses may involve laboratory activities and advising student projects. The lecturer is also responsible for supervising bachelor's and master's theses and mentoring PhD students.
Research Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to VGU's scientific profile through innovation in basic and applied research in Mathematics, with a strong background in numerical analysis and computational mathematics, including finite element methods, boundary element methods, and numerical methods for partial differential equations (PDEs) with uncertainties.
Administrative Responsibilities
The candidate will contribute to the development of the Sustainable Process Engineering (SPE) program by participating in administrative, marketing, and public activities, in consultation with the Academic Coordinator and Ruhr-Universität Bochum. They are also expected to contribute to the academic self-administration of the Faculty of Engineering and university.
Qualification
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university. A current title of Professor is a plus, along with experience in the German higher education system. Other requirements include an outstanding academic record, proven expertise in Mathematics, a strong track record of research and publications, teaching experience, and excellent English proficiency (e.g., IELTS 6.5 or equivalent).
