University of Glasgow – College of Science and Engineering

DiveIn CDT is an innovative EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training at the University of Glasgow, focused on bringing together diverse teams to tackle interdisciplinary, mission-driven challenges at the forefront of research.

We prioritise diversity, creating an inclusive space for varied talents to produce transformative interdisciplinary research, bringing together world-changing experts from various fields to tackle complex problems and ensuring that our research is impactful and aligned with broader societal goals.

Our Strategic Research Areas are:

Global Challenges

  • Beyond Net Zero
  • Bridging the Digital Divide
  • Planetary Health
  • Transforming Health and Healthcare

Enabling Technologies

  • Advanced Connectivity Technology
  • Advanced Materials
  • AI and Big Data
  • Engineering Biology
  • Photonics
  • Quantum Technologies

Doctoral researchers join the programme without needing a research proposal or a pre-arranged supervisory team. Instead, the programme supports the co-creation of research projects and the formation of research teams through a series of facilitated workshops. Explore the vibrant community at the University of Glasgow, discover world-leading research, and browse potential supervisors in our online Catalogue of Possibilities.

PhD Journey

During the 4-year PhD, students will take part in a bespoke training programme, supported with networking events and tailored coaching, and take advantage of the research and placement opportunities provided by our wide range of external partners.

The funding provided for these fully funded PhDs will include four years of both tuition fees and monthly stipend payments. The DiveIn stipend will be uplifted by £4,000 per annum above the recommended UKRI rate (in total, expected to be confirmed at £25,383 per annum for session 2026/27).

Part-time study options are also available.
