Job Description

Summary:

The Office of Research at American University is seeking a detail-oriented and tech-savvy student to assist in the creation of a centralized Funding Announcement Database. This database will serve as a critical tool to help AU faculty and staff access timely funding opportunities across disciplines and sponsors.

As the Funding Announcement Database Assistant, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining an organized, searchable system that captures and categorizes grant and funding announcements from a variety of sources.

Essential Functions:

• Research and compile funding opportunities from federal agencies, private foundations, and institutional sources.
• Extract, standardize, and input data into a structured database (e.g., MS Access).
• Tag opportunities by discipline, eligibility, due dates, and type of funding (e.g., seed funding, fellowships, research grants).
• Ensure the database is easily searchable and user-friendly for AU stakeholders.
• Maintain up-to-date entries and assist with periodic quality checks.
• Collaborate with the Office of Research to identify priority areas and refine database structure as needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Part-time. 20 hours per week.

Salary Range: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

• Current AU undergraduate or graduate student.
• Experience with creating and maintaining databases is a must.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Comfort working with spreadsheets or databases.
• Excellent research and data entry skills.
• Ability to follow structured workflows and maintain consistent data formatting.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Interest in research administration, grants, or higher education preferred.
