Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for two Wellington-based Future Student Advisers to join Te Kahupapa - Future Students Directorate. One role is a permanent, full-time position, while the other is a fixed-term, full-time position until December 2026.

These positions will play a key role in inspiring and supporting domestic learners to begin their study journey. In this relationship-focused role, you’ll deliver engaging presentations, provide tailored course advice, and build strong partnerships with secondary schools, communities, and whānau across Aotearoa. You’ll help prospective students navigate their pathway to university, ensuring they feel informed, welcomed, and set up for success.

Key responsibilities:

• Inspire future students through compelling presentations, school visits, and events that showcase the opportunities at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington.
• Provide friendly, personalised course advice that helps students feel confident and ready to begin their university journey.
• Build strong, trusted relationships with schools, communities, and whānau to support students from first interest to enrolment.
• Contribute to high‑impact recruitment events such as Open Day and information evenings that bring the campus experience to life.
• Capture and track future student engagement to support smooth follow‑up and continuous improvement.
• Champion equity and inclusion by supporting outreach and pathways for Māori, Pasifika, and diverse learner communities.

Key requirements:

• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage audiences of all sizes.
• Proven ability to build relationships with students, schools, whānau, and community partners.
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage busy schedules, events, and competing priorities.
• Experience in customer service, education, or community engagement, with a commitment to delivering high‑quality support.
• A collaborative team player who can also work independently and exercise sound judgement.
• Cultural competence and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
• A full, clean driver’s licence and willingness to travel for school visits and recruitment activities.
