Your responsibilities will include managing workplace health and safety (OH&S), maintaining gallery buildings and equipment, and collaborating closely with curatorial, exhibitions, engagement, and operations teams to guarantee the safe and outstanding presentation of exhibitions and public programs. In addition, you will actively contribute to the installation and ongoing care of the Curtin University Art Collection, supporting both campus displays and public art initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on professional looking to make a meaningful impact within a vibrant gallery environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver the production and installation of exhibitions, displays and engagement programs, ensuring delivery to agreed timelines, budgets and international museum standards.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Registrar and Curator to coordinate exhibition schedules, layouts and artwork requirements across all gallery spaces.
  • Supervise and coordinate a team of casual installation staff, including rostering, training, inductions and promoting safe work practices.
  • Take a hands-on role in exhibition installations, including constructing exhibition furniture and contributing practical design input and recommendations.
  • Manage exhibition production and installation budgets, including procurement, cost tracking and resource allocation.
  • Support the Collections team with the installation and ongoing care of the University Art Collection, including campus displays and public art programs.
  • Oversee the maintenance and presentation of gallery spaces, equipment, lighting and AV to ensure all areas are safe, functional and visually engaging.
  • Monitor environmental conditions, pest management and building maintenance requirements in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with WHS policies, procedures and legislative requirements, including conducting risk assessments and promoting a strong culture of safety.
  • Contribute to emergency preparedness and response activities, including acting as a Building Warden when required.
  • Maintain high presentation standards for artworks across gallery and campus locations.
  • Contribute to exhibition planning and public program development, supporting the delivery of creative and engaging experiences.

Who we are looking for:

Working in a job-share capacity, you’ll be a proactive, hands-on professional with a passion for exhibitions and gallery operations, and the ability to deliver high-quality outcomes. You will bring:

  1. Proven experience coordinating and delivering exhibitions, displays or similar projects within agreed timelines and budgets.
  2. Strong knowledge of museum or gallery standards, including artwork handling, installation practices and presentation requirements.
  3. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with curators, registrars and stakeholders to deliver high-quality exhibition outcomes.
  4. Experience supervising and coordinating staff, including rostering, training and fostering safe work practices.
  5. Practical, hands-on installation skills, including construction, layout implementation and use of tools and equipment.
  6. Experience managing budgets, procurement processes and resource allocation.
  7. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Experience maintaining gallery spaces, equipment and facilities, including lighting, AV and storage areas.
  9. Knowledge of environmental controls, collection care and preventive conservation practices.
  10. A strong commitment to WHS, including risk management and compliance.
  11. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships

Role Requirements:

  1. As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
  2. Part time hours/roster if applicable
